Non-Employee / Unpaid Appointments

Non-Employee / Unpaid Appointments are for individuals who are not already affiliated with the university as a paid employee or a student of the university (i.e. board members, volunteers, interns, temporary visitors, adjunct faculty, professor emeritus, postdoctoral fellow, visiting scholars, Fleming / George Brown / Ontario Tech paid faculty who teach at Trent, etc.). 

Non-Employees / Unpaid Appointments that require access to Trent University's systems / email / accounts are required to complete the following steps:

1. Confirm their appointment with their direct supervisor (a current employee of the university), including their start/end dates and required system/email/account access needed.
2. Where applicable, have their direct supervisor/department submit their appointment letter to Human Resources.
3. Complete the confidential Non-Trent Employee / Unpaid Appointment Form in order for the Department of Human Resources to provide you with a Trent University email and/or IT account.
4. Complete the Informed Consent Waiver for Volunteers and Visiting Scholars and return this to your hiring department and cc Risk Management.
5. Once processed by Human Resources, the individual and the direct supervisor will be notified via email. Account set-up can take 24-48 hours from the time Human Resources enters the individual. The individual will be sent instructions on how to access their account.
6. Complete the mandatory training listed in your VIP account. Confirm with your direct supervisor if there is any additional training to be completed.
