
Heart of Trent Awards
Nominations are Now Open:
Trent University faculty, staff, students and alumni are invited to submit award nominations, no later than Friday, April 1, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. All awards will be presented at the Heart of Trent event on May 11, 2022 (more details to come).
Nancy Simmons Smith Staff Award of Excellence
Recognizing a long-standing need for a staff recognition award, the University established the Nancy Simmons Smith Award in 2008 to recognize non-academic staff members who demonstrate excellence and exceptional commitment to Trent. With the support of an endowed fund, the Award is named in honour of Ms. Simmons Smith, University secretary and secretary of the Board of Governors from 1987 to 2008. Throughout her career as a senior administrator, Nancy advocated tirelessly for the recognition of non-academic staff and their contributions to the University.
The award includes a cash gift of $500 and a framed citation presented at the Heart of Trent Event. An individual may receive the award only once. Please click for more information and a list of previous winners. Download the Nomination Form.
Team Innovation Award
The Team Innovation Award recognizes a team, unit or department at Trent University whose innovative contributions have impacted the strategic objectives of the University. The award will recognize innovation in process, product, method or system that has resulted in a positive outcome that extends throughout the Trent community.
The award includes a cash gift of $1,000 to be used towards a team building activity and framed citation to be presented at the annual Heart of Trent Appreciation Event. For more information, please download the Nomination Form.
Provost’s Award for Support Staff
The Provost’s Award for Support Staff was created to recognize a member of the support staff who plays an important role in the student experience and who makes a difference through their performance at Trent. All Trent OPSEU and Exempt staff play an important role in creating our campus community.
One award will be presented annually by the Provost on behalf of the University to an individual selected by the Provost’s Awards Committee. The Award winner will receive a cash award of $500 and a framed certificate. An individual may receive the award only once. Please view the list of previous winners. Trent Community Leadership Award
The Trent Community Leadership Award recognizes faculty and staff who make exceptional contributions to the local community in Peterborough or Durham regions. We believe the community is enriched by the leadership, volunteerism and contributions made by those who work for Trent. This award seeks to reinforce the value of giving back and getting involved, to extend the positive impact of the University in multiple ways.
The award includes a framed certificate, a $250 cash award, and an additional $250 cash award to donate to a charity or agency of the winner’s choice. View the list of previous winners. For more information, please download the Nomination Form.
Trent University Research Impact Award
This annual award recognizes the Trent University researcher or research team stewarding original and impactful research which has contributed significantly to society (local, regional, national or international).
The award includes a framed certificate and a $500 cash award for investment in the research project if still ongoing or promotion of same if already completed. For more information, please download the Nomination Form.
