Welcome to the Trent Athletics Centre
Athletics Centre Introduces Enhanced Measures Nov. 23, 2020
Updated: November 20, 2020
The Athletics Centre is pleased to have opened its doors to Trent students on September 1, followed by the next phase of reopening on October 19, welcoming back Trent staff and faculty members. As we follow our phased reopening plan, the health and safety of our students, staff and community remain our priorities. Following the Trent Forward Plan and guided by the latest public health and provincial directives, the Trent Athletics Centre continues to take extra precautions to ensure our community remains safe.
In response to the provincial government’s announcement that the Peterborough area will move to the “Yellow/Protect” level, effective November 23, 2020, the Athletics Centre is implementing enhanced measures outlined in the Response Framework: Keeping Ontario Safe and Open November 3, 2020 Updated: November 13, 2020
The most notable change is increased spacing to 3m between individuals and equipment where there are weights, exercise equipment and fitness classes. To support this enhanced physical distancing in workout areas, some exercise equipment has been moved and some equipment is no longer available for use.
All other aspects of the Athletics Centre operations remain unchanged, including hours of operation:
Athletics Centre Hours:
Monday to Friday – 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday – 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Allan Marshall Pool Hours:
Monday to Friday – 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday – 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Services and Amenities
Some services and amenities will not be available during the first phase of reopening to support the health and safety of all Trent students and members. Click here for a complete summary of what will be available during the first phase of reopening.
Based upon the current government parameters the number of individuals permitted in the Athletics Centre at one time will be limited to a maximum of 50 individuals maximum for one space/room (i.e. 50 for the Sport Centre and 50 for the gymnasium, etc.). Space within the facility will also be used to develop workout zones with specific cardio and free weight equipment in each work out zone.
The attendance of Trent students will be recorded, using Legend software, to:
- ensure there is sufficient space to allow people to remain 3 metres apart in all areas;
- prevent congregating;
- allow staff time to clean and disinfect equipment and other surfaces frequently; and
- ensure total building capacity does not exceed provincial guidelines for indoor gatherings (50 individuals per space/room), excluding: Trent Health in Motion clinic; Planet café space; Allan Marshall 25m pool; Athletics Centre staff.
All students and staff will be asked to maintain physical distancing, which includes providing at least 3 metres (10 ft.) between people.
To help provide a safe and welcoming environment for Trent Students, various strategies are being utilized to help promote physical distancing within the Athletics Centre. Click here for a full list of the physical distancing strategies being utilized by the Athletics Centre.
Trent Athletics is committed to the health and safety of staff, students and the community. As part of the reopening plan, enhanced cleaning protocols will be implemented with an “Everyone Cleans” motto. Click here for a detailed list of our enhanced cleaning measures.
Workout Zones have been created to allow Trent students, staff and faculty to reserve a workout in advance through our Legend online booking system. This will allow a limited number of individuals to reserve a specified 1-hour workout appointment. No walk-ins will be permitted.
Each Workout Zone will be designed by relocating some pieces of fitness equipment normally located in the Sport Centre and distributing them to other rooms, including the gymnasium, mezzanine (2nd floor), Fitness Studio 1, and Fitness Studio 2.
Booking Your Workout
Trent students, staff and faculty members may register online through the Trent Athletics Legend online recreation management booking system to reserve a 1-hour workout appointment OR a 45-minute lane swim. There are several details to observe before booking your workout, all of which can be seen here.
Group Fitness and Personal Training
We are excited to welcome students back to our group fitness classes! These classes will be phased in and will only be delivered if physical distancing can be maintained at all times. Also, we will have both in-person and online personal training packages available and we have designated personal training space available.
Our student-athletes will be following the guidance and direction of health authorities, as we hope to see a return to training for all of our varsity programs as soon as it is deemed safe to do so. Part of this process is the establishment of Return to Train protocols and policies to ensure the safety of all of our student-athletes, coaches, and community members with a return normal varsity season as soon as possible. With our eye to the future, the Trent Excalibur varsity program will come through this even stronger and poised to continue building on our record of championships and legacy of excellence.
As we plan for a return to campus this fall, Trent Athletics is working closely with the University as part of the Trent Forward Plan in order to plan and host fun and engaging opportunities for fitness and recreation. These opportunities will be geared towards both those students living on campus and in the Peterborough area, as well as those studying from home! There’s no limit to the creative opportunities that students can help us plan for this fall, but some examples of these activities may include outdoor yoga sessions, social media driven recreation competitions, hiking groups or online team fitness challenges, as examples. We look forward to helping everyone find their fit this fall!
