Mental Health Contacts

Telus Health (formerly Lifeworks): Telus Health (formerly Lifeworks) is available to you and your dependents, at no additional cost, to help you manage personal issues at work or at home. Their services are confidential and are offered 24/7, 365 days a year. Telus Health (formerly Lifeworks) also offers resources for managers (Deans, Chairs, Directors, Managers, Supervisors, etc) to assist managers with supporting their employees who may be dealing with Mental Health Issues.

Mental Health Coach - The university is excited to continue its partnership with Sun Life to provide employees access to a complimentary Mental Health Coach service. Trent is committed to employee wellbeing and understands the importance of mental health support. All Coaches are licensed healthcare professionals and can help connect you with the resources that work for you.

With this free, confidential service, you will:

  • Do a mental health check‑in. Complete a 10‑15 minute online mental health assessment. Then, book an appointment with a Mental Health Coach – the online calendar shows you all available times.
  • Meet with your Mental Health Coach by phone for a 60 minute session. Your Coach will talk to you about your assessment. They’ll match your needs to what you have in your benefits plan and other available resources.
  • Start your individual mental health journey. Your Coach will work with you to create a personalized action plan. They’ll also provide ongoing support throughout your journey to help you reach your goals.

The Mental Health Helpline: The Mental Health Helpline is a free, government-sponsored service offering confidential services 24/7, 365 days a year. A referral specialist will answer your call, email or webchat and can provide information about counseling services and support in your community, listen offer support and provide strategies to help you meet your goals and provide basic information and education about mental health and mental illness.

Mind Your Mind: Mind your mind is a free, not-for-profit organization who offers a multitude of mental health resources. They offer information and resources about many mental illnesses ranging from anxiety and depression to eating disorders and suicide. They offer strategies for getting yourself help, but also strategies for helping friends and colleagues who may be experiencing mental illness. Their website it a wealth of knowledge and resources.


Sun Life:  Sun Life offers free mental health training modules for managers (Deans, Chairs, Directors, Managers, Supervisors, etc.) available any time by visiting:

2. Managing mental health in the workplace

3. Managing absenteeism

4. Managing difficult behaviour

5. Managing interpersonal conflict

6. Staying at work and returning to work

7. It's my choice - understanding how many factors impact mental health

Durham Mental Health Services / Mobile Services: Short-term crisis beds, visits, and free confidential support line for individuals 16+ with a history of mental illness.  905-666-0483 or 1-800-742-1890

Durham Distress Centre: telephone counselling, crisis, and suicide intervention, and referral. 905-430-2522 or 1-800-452-0688

ONTX Ontario Online & Text Crisis Services: Text is available from your mobile phone from 2 pm to 2 am daily and is accessed by dialing 258-258. You will need to complete a pre-chat survey and agree to terms and conditions of service and a responder will be available to you.

Durham Region Domestic Violence / Sexual Assault Care Centre (Lakeridge Health): Crisis line providing counselling and referrals for sexual assault victims, all ages. 905-576-8711

Lakeridge Health Adult Mental Health Program: Crisis intervention, inpatient unit, and outpatient services at Lakeridge Health Oshawa site and many community locations.

Step 2: Select the Wellbeing option at the very top of the screen
