The Foundations for Success Certificate Program

What is it?

This certificate program involves workshops, podcast episodes, and events to equip you with essential skills that help you thrive during and after your post-secondary education.

Two Streams: This certificate program is offered in two program streams. Students should choose the stream that is most relevant to them at the time of study, as these streams will have different core workshops that are offered.

  • The New Student Stream (for students started in September 2022 or January 2023)
    • Workshop topics to expect include:
      • Making the most of university: getting involved and making friends
      • Achieving work life balance and protecting your wellbeing at university
      • Forming and protecting healthy relationships
      • Academic strategies to help you ace your midterms and final exams

  • The Continuing Student Stream (for students started in September 2022 or before)
    • Workshop topics to expect include:
      • Finding off campus housing and living with roommates
      • Learning how to budget effectively in university
      • Buffing up your resume and linked-in for summer jobs
      • Academic strategies to help you ace your midterms and final exams

Why should I complete this?

Co-Curricular Record (CCR): Alongside learning skills to set you up for success in university and beyond, students completing this program will receive the "Foundations for Success” certificate on their CCR. This looks great on a resume and indicates personal development, resourcefulness and initiative to employers and schools.

Trent Cash Draw: If students complete one program stream, they will be entered into a draw for a chance to win $50 in Trent Cash. If students complete both program streams, they will be entered into a draw to win $150 in Trent Cash.

What are the requirements for completing this certificate program?

To complete one certificate program stream, students need to complete the following.

  • Attend at least 2 workshops of your choosing (in one stream)
  • Attend at least 2 in-person or online events of your choosing
  • Write a short reflection on a few episodes from our "Ahhdulting Podcast"

To complete both certificate streams, students need to complete the following:

  • Attend at least 4 workshops of your choosing (across both streams)
  • Attend at least 2 in-person or online events of your choosing
  • Write a short reflection on a few episodes from our "Ahhdulting Podcast"

*While specific dates and times for programming are to-be-determined, workshops are anticipated to be held on Mondays from 3:00-4:00 PM and Tuesdays from 11AM-12PM. Most workshops will be held in person with some held online.*
