All full-time undergraduate and post‑graduate certificate students at Trent Durham GTA automatically receive a Universal Transit Pass (UPASS) for Durham Region Transit (DRT), which is covered through their ancillary fees.
The UPASS is valid during the following periods:
- Fall term: September 1 to December 31
- Winter term: January 1 to April 30
- Spring/Summer term: May 1 to August 31
To be eligible for the DRT UPASS, students must be enrolled in a minimum of 1.5 credits each term, with at least one in-person course.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The UPASS is now only available for use with the PRESTO APP, not the PRESTO E-Ticket APP. You may need to download the PRESTO APP.
Your Campus Home Location must be Trent Durham. You can update this through your myTrent account by navigating to Support > College Life > Change Campus Home Location.
At the start of each term, an email will be sent to your myTrent account notifying you when your DRT UPASS voucher is available for redemption.
To receive your DRT UPASS voucher before the start of each term, you must be enrolled in at least 1.5 credits before the term's start date.
If you register after the term's start date, your UPASS will be processed during regular business hours.

VERIFY YOUR DEVICE MEETS THE TAP REQUIREMENTS
For iPhones:
- An Apple device must have an Operating System (iOS) version of 16.4 or later.
- Having issues? Check your iPhone's tech specifications under Cellular and Wireless.
Your device’s country setting must be set to Canada:
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name, then select Media & Purchases.
- Tap View Account, then Country/Region.
- Choose Change Country or Region and follow the on-screen instructions.
For Android Users:
- Near Field Communication (NFC) must be enabled to use PRESTO in your Mobile Wallet.
- You must have the latest versions of Google Wallet and Google Play Services installed.
Your device’s country setting must be set to Canada:
- Open the Google Play Store App.
- Tap the menu button, then select Account.
- Under Country and profiles, locate your name and country, then follow the prompts to update if needed.

REDEEM YOUR UPASS VOUCHER
The digital UPASS is available through the PRESTO App, offering a convenient, contactless way to present your fare when riding with DRT. Just follow these steps:
DOWNLOAD THE PRESTO APP. When signing up, you have the option to use your school or personal email account.
Check your Trent email: An email will be sent to you from the Trent Durham Office of Student Affairs (durhamstudentaffairs@trentu.ca) containing your PRESTO voucher code.
Need help redeeming your UPASS voucher? For detailed instructions on how to redeem a PRESTO voucher, visit the PRESTO Voucher Portal.
Redeem your voucher: Choose the PRESTO card you want to load the voucher on to, enter the code, review the details, and tap "Done". Your transit pass will then be active.
Ride with ease: When boarding a DRT bus, open the PRESTO App and tap your phone on the PRESTO reader to validate your fare.
Students using Physical Presto cards must tap on a Presto device within 30 days of voucher redemption. Activation takes time — allow 4–7 hours before tapping.
For Existing Physical Cardholders: If you already have a physical PRESTO card, the voucher can only be redeemed through the PRESTO website.

REGISTERED SAS STUDENT
Students registered with SAS who have “Reduced Course Load” accommodations are encouraged to email durhamstudentaffairs@trentu.ca to have their UPASS processed.

MASTER OF MANAGEMENT STUDENTS
Master of Management Students have the option to enrol in the DRT UPASS each term.
- To be eligible for the DRT UAPSS, graduate students must be enrolled in at least one in-person course at the Trent Durham campus.
- To opt into and accept the associated fee, go to MyTrent > Services > Campus Services > Trent Durham Transit Pass.
- Each term, the deadline to opt in to the DRT UPASS aligns with the Important Dates in the Graduate Academic Calendar, specifically, the final date for program and course registration and the final date to add courses - https://calendar.trentu.ca/graduate/dates

ACCESSING YOUR UPASS ON A NEW DEVICE
Your digital/wallet UPASS is non-transferable and is only valid for travel on the DRT.
Accessing Your UPASS on a New Device: If you have a new device, download the PRESTO App and log in to access your UPASS. If you DO NOT have a smartphone and require a physical card, information can be viewed from the PRESTO Voucher Portal.
Important: Register your physical card as soon as possible. If the card is not registered and becomes lost or stolen, your UPASS cannot be replaced for the remainder of the term.

PRESTO APP not visible in your App or Google Play Store? Your country may not be set to Canada in your device settings.
