Program Descriptions:

Pre-Orientation Trivia and Mobile Games – Orientation Leaders will be hosting a special “pre-orientation” event where students can participate and meet each other ahead of the official orientation programs.  Casual trivia and mobile games will be a part of the program so start studying your pop culture now!

Residence Move-In Day – Students who are moving into residence will be able to do so on Monday, September 7th.  Stay tuned for information from Housing Services on your time to move in and check out a special event for residence students hosted by Housing and Student Services.

Mature and Transfer Student Welcome – In a special session, mature and transfer students will have the opportunity to meet with other upper year mature and transfer students to discuss the transition to Trent and the challenges they overcame as they navigated faculty support and student services.

Fall Start-Up Welcome and Introductions – Hear a welcome message from our Dean and Head of Campus, Scott Henderson as well as introductions from the student leaders of the Trent Durham Student Association, and a special greeting from the First People’s House of Learning.

Social Meet and Greet / Activities – Join Orientation Leaders and other new students to meet each other virtually and participate in several games and icebreakers to help you get to know each other.  Students will have the opportunity to join rooms where they can learn about each other, play drawing style games, or just relax and socialize with other students in a “coffee house” style room, just to name a few.

Consent Session - Our special partners from the DRCC (Durham Rape Crisis Centre) will hold a presentation and discussion on building a culture of consent at the Trent campus and what services they offer to students to help them make good choices and support each other.

Playfair – This event is a unique blend of audience participation comedy routines, non-competitive adult play experiences and newly created group dynamic exercises.  Facilitated by Playfair Canada, they provide the opportunity for students to experience a newfound sense of belonging to make new campus friendships and promote staying connected.

Program Specific Socials – Want to meet some of your professors in your program for an informal conversation with other student leaders?  Join our socials for any of the programs you are studying to hear tips and tricks from faculty as well as interesting directions former students have taken through their undergraduate careers.

Academic Skills Workshop: Online Learning – If you are curious about how you can be more successful through a semester of online learning, this workshop will cover topics such as self-directed study tips, keeping yourself accountable, time management skills, and motivation at home.
