Minecraft Online Event – Join us in Minecraft for some special Trent fun and games. Whether it's battle royale, hide and seek, or joining a cross country adventure with friends, you can connect with other Trent students in a virtual world that includes a digital recreation of the Durham Campus.
Fall Start-Up Welcome – Our official opening ceremonies includes welcome messages from our Dean and Head of Campus, Scott Henderson, as well as introductions from Student Services, the Trent Durham Student Association, and a special greeting from the First People’s House of Learning.
Social Activities – New students can join orientation leaders to participate in several games and icebreakers to help you get to know each other. Students will have the opportunity to join teams where they can connect, play games, or just relax and socialize with other students in their own refreshment room.
Food Truck Dinner – Dinner is free for all new students at our food truck marketplace. You get a ticket to use at any of the food trucks on campus to get a meal and there are multiple trucks to choose from. Drinks and cotton candy will also be available.
Campus Fair – During and after dinner for the evening, hang out with new friends and leaders at the campus fair. A free event featuring tons of games such as soccer darts, dance dance revolution, axe throwing, and many other activities. A great way to end the day of fun!
Mature and Transfer Student Welcome – In a special session, mature and transfer students will have the opportunity to meet with other upper year mature and transfer students to discuss the transition to Trent and the challenges they overcame as they navigated faculty support and student services.
Academic Advising – Meet with our academic advisors and participate in a session which goes over the expectations and misconceptions of university academics. This is a great chance to gain some insight into how to start your academic career off strong and successful.
First Lecture – Following a strong TrentU Durham GTA tradition, experience your first lecture with our Dean and Head of campus, Scott Henderson. In a special personalized session, Scott will present on a popular topic that makes you think critically about the world and expand our thoughts about life.
Program Specific Socials – Want to meet some of your professors in your program for an informal conversation with other student leaders? Join our socials for any of the programs you are studying to hear tips and tricks from faculty as well as interesting directions former students have taken through their undergraduate careers.
Community Vendors Alley – Situated in our new atrium, members of the Durham community will be on campus to explain their services, recruit volunteers or staff, and give away free swag. Vendors include retail establishments, restaurants, services, and entertainment venues. There will be music, refreshments, and prize giveaways!
Movie-on-the-Lawn – Set up in our new quad, we are hosting a movie outside on our 25' screen. Come outside with your blanket, camp chair, or inflatable couch and get some free popcorn while watching a movie with friends.
Orientation Pop-Up Events – Throughout the day, orientation leaders will be hosting pop-up events around campus for students to participate in. Events include live rocket league, tie dye your life, craft activities, and video games.
We will also be connecting with all incoming students by phone through our reach-out campaign in the coming weeks to see if you have questions about the start of the year and want to speak to someone live. Keep an ear out for a phone call from our student staff soon!
