Your Path to Trent: Next Steps
Trent University Durham GTA
Congratulations, your world-class education awaits!
You’re about to embark on an exciting and important new chapter in your life. At Trent Durham GTA, you'll prepare for your career, make lasting friendships and challenge the way you think and grow.
So, what are your next steps? This handy guide will provide you with step-by-step instructions and important deadlines, helping you to be prepared and ready as a new student.
1. KNOW YOUR STUDENT NUMBER
Have you noticed a 7-digit number on all the Trent admissions letters and emails you've received? That's your official Trent student number. And while you won't feel like just a number on our campus, your unique student ID number is what gives you access to important information about your degree, student services and campus events, and is also required for writing exams. So keep your number handy - and if you can - memorize it!
2. SET UP YOUR TRENT EMAIL
MyTrent is your student portal, giving you direct access to your academic records, email, information about coursework and more. You can activate your MyTrent account using your student number and personal email address at trentu.ca/mytrent/activate.
Your Trent email will be activated in mid-June, and an “email” tab will appear in your account on the myTrent portal at trentu.ca/mytrent. Once your email is active, you’ll start to receive all of your Trent info at this email. Your profs will email you here as well. Set up your Trent email on your phone: Android Phone or Apple Phone
3. EXPLORE YOUR COURSE OPTIONS
One of the most exciting parts of planning your postsecondary education is figuring out what classes you are going to take first!
Beginning in late June, you'll be able to log into your myTrent portal and register for fall courses under the Academics tab. We've also got plenty of helpful information and video tutorials online at trentu.ca/welcome to get you started on course selection, creating your timetable and more. Building your schedule takes time, but don't worry - it's easier than you think!
4. REGISTER FOR SUMMER ACADEMIC KICKSTART
Get a head start on fall. Join us for our Summer Academic Kickstart! Here you’ll be able to register for your courses early, connect with other new students, meet your student association, and learn everything you need to know to make your university experience a success. Find out more and how to register at trentu.ca/welcome.
SUMMER ACADEMIC KICKSTART:

5. ORDER YOUR STUDENT CARD & BUS PASS
Think of your TrentU Card as your campus passport. With your new student ID card, you'll get photocopying at the library to working out at various City of Oshawa recreational facilities. By loading money onto your TrentU Card, you'll also be able to use your card at a number of restaurants, cafes and shops on and off campus.
You can get your TrentU Card when school starts in September, but why wait? Get ahead of the game and submit a passport-style photo of yourself on myTrent by clicking on Services and then TrentU Card Photo Submission. Once received, your card will be processes and ready for pick-up when you arrive. You can also visit trentu.ca/trentucard for TrentU Card tips, photo requirements and more.
