Applying to Trent
- How do I apply to Trent?
-
Applying to Trent is easy! Head over to the Ontario University Application Centre (www.ouac.on.ca) and click ‘Apply Now’, then on the right hand side click ‘Create my Account’ – from there, follow the prompts!
- Can I apply to more than one program?
-
Absolutely – you can apply to a maximum of three programs at Trent.
- How can I find my program on the OUAC application?
-
Here is a link to all Trent programs on the OUAC application. You can search for programs offered at both our Peterborough and Durham campuses.
- Does it matter how I rank my program choices?
-
No! We are going to evaluate you for each program you have applied to, regardless of the way you rank them on your application.
- Are there additional forms required?
-
Admission to the programs at Trent are based on grades alone.
- Should I apply to a backup program?
-
If you are not admitted into a competitive program, we are going to automatically assess you for an alternate offer into a similar program, without the need for another application!
- What if I want to switch Trent campuses?
-
This is a simple fix! Log into your OUAC account and begin by dropping the program at the initial campus choice. You can then add a program at the campus you wish to attend.
If you’d like to switch campuses you will need to make the change on the OUAC directly. For example; if you applied to Trent’s Bachelor of Business Administration program at our Peterborough campus and would like to instead study at the Durham campus you will first need to withdraw the Peterborough application, and then add the BBA program at the Durham campus. If you drop a Trent program application and then subsequently add a Trent program on the same day with the OUAC, you will not be charged for the change.
- If you previously had an offer for the program you dropped you will need to ‘decline’ the offer first. Once the new campus has been submitted please reach out to the Office of Admissions (admissions@trentu.ca) and they will ensure that you receive an offer for the new campus.
Admission Requirements
- How do I find my programs admissions requirements?
-
The best place to check your program admission requirements is Trent’s website. You can check out the admission requirements for your program on its webpage – search all programs here: https://www.trentu.ca/futurestudents/undergraduate/programs
- What average do I need to get into Trent?
-
Trent’s admission averages vary from a minimum of 70% up to a minimum of 80%. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission. Trent University’s viewbook lists the Estimated Admission Range.
- How do I calculate my admissions average?
-
For most programs, we will calculate your admission average based on your best six 4U/M level courses. This means that we may not necessarily include a pre-requisite in your average calculation. Keep in mind that you must have a passing grade in each pre-requisite for your program. Trent requires all applicants to have a minimum of 60% in your ENG4U course.
- What happens if I repeat a course?
-
Trent will always take your higher grade – it’s that simple!
- What documents do I need to submit? When and how do I submit them?
-
As an Ontario high school applicant you do not need to submit additional documents. Your highschool will share your grades with the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC) and then the OUAC will share those with Trent automatically.
Admissions Decisions and Accepting your Offer to Trent
- Where can I check the status of my application?
-
The best place to check the status of your application is on the myTrent Portal, a central hub which will keep you informed about your status.
- When will I hear if I have been accepted?
-
Trent issues offers of admissions on a rolling basis – that means the Office of Admissions is constantly looking at new applications as grades are updated. If you don’t have an offer of admission yet, don’t worry – we may simply be waiting for your final Semester 1 grades, or your Semester 2 mid-terms.
- How will I know if I receive an offer of admission?
-
Simple – we’ll tell you! The Office of Admissions will send you a notification to the email address you included as part of your OUAC application. Once you’ve been accepted, keep an eye out on your home mailbox – we’ve sent you a little surprise!
- How do I accept my offer of admission?
-
You’ll accept your offer of admission on the OUAC portal. Click ‘Accept Offer’ and Trent will be notified of your acceptance the next business day.
- What if I do not meet the conditions of my offer?
-
If you think that you’ll be unable to meet the conditions of your offer, there are options for you. If you intend on upgrading a course grade, or taking a 4U/M course in the summer after high school, you will need to submit the Intention to Upgrade form found on your myTrent Portal. This form will let our Admissions team know that you’re upgrading your courses. It is your responsibility as an applicant to be aware of your conditions – you can check these on the myTrent Portal or at the bottom of your offer letter. If you’re unsure what conditions you have to meet, reach out to the Office of Admissions by email at admissions@trentu.ca.
- Can I defer my offer of admission?
-
As a highschool applicant you may choose to defer your offer of admission. Applications to defer your offer of admission will open in July, and we must see that you have graduated from your Ontario Secondary School Diploma, have the minimum average for your program, have passed each pre-requisite courses, and have a 60% or greater in your ENG4U course before we’ll approve your deferral.
