Here are a few of the supports, services, and great initiatives you can access as a student at Trent.

Academic & Collegiate Support

Your educational experience should be personal and give you opportunities to shine. Through the various supports that you will find at Trent, you will find champions who will both help you feel grounded in your academic experience and inspired to take to new heights.

The Colleges of Trent

Trent’s unique collegiate learning environment makes it an easy place for students to settle in, forge friendships, and take part in traditions and social events, all while achieving academic excellence. In your college, students can access support from Academic Advisors and Academic Skills instructors.

You can look forward to a phone call, text, or email from the Colleges at Trent University to help you pick your college! Academic Skills: Strengthen and refine your learning skills

Academic Skills instructors are available in every college office and at the Durham-GTA campus to offer free and confidential appointments in-person, over Zoom, and over email. Connect with Academic Skills to find helpful online resources, events and workshops, and individual appointments to support your learning at university. https://www.trentu.ca/academicskills

Course Registration

Questions about how to plan your timetable? Contact Academic Advising or the College offices any time for information and support. Learn more about how to plan your course selections, and give us a call when registration opens for – we will be on hand to answer your questions. In the meantime, first year students can also check out our helpful resources including First Year Courses For Each Major materials and video tutorials on how to schedule and register for your courses as well as how to navigate the Academic Timetable and Academic Calendar. Rebound: A peer support program for academic support

This peer-support program that provides students with connections to resources, services and supports on campus to help you in your transition; it is a home for any first or second year student wanting to start University off on the right foot. Library Services

Trent University Library and Archives provides several library research supports and services to help enable students navigate the world of information resources.  Through our locations on the Symons Campus in Peterborough, and at the Durham Campus in Oshawa, students have access to several services, including access to study space, in-person research support, and print resources. In addition, students have access to online resources like e-journals and e-books and the ability to book online research consultations with a librarian.  Visit the library website for more information on accessing online collections, support and library hours.

Academic Skills Learning Labs: Learn how to learn at university

Practice student-tested tips and strategies in weekly Learning Labs with an Academic Skills Instructor and an experienced Trent student to enhance your learning habits. Academic Skills Tool Kit: Build your learning tool kit for navigating university

Active Engagement

Students will be welcomed to our communities in Peterborough or Oshawa where together we will define the "new normal" for campus interaction. What do you have to look forward to on campus as well as virtually? Yoga in common spaces, hikes, Zoom cooking classes, online nutrition classes, use of traditional areas like Medicine Garden, Wigwam, Tipi and social fires, just to name a few. Here are a few more:

First Peoples House of Learning

FPHL offers a wide range of support services for your time at Trent, including: cultural counsellors; academic and admissions assistance including tutoring for Indigenous students and all those taking Indigenous Studies courses; skills workshops held throughout the year and designed with the Indigenous learner in mind; student ambassadors who extend a welcoming hand to the community. They are also offering their Ishkodehwin program live on Facebook. https://www.trentu.ca/fphl/

Peer Support Programs: Students helping students

Students helping students is one of the things we do best at Trent. Peer support programs, including Out on Campus and Ishkodehwin Live, remain accessible in virtual formats currently to provide students with connections to resources, services and supports on campus to help you during your time at Trent. https://www.trentu.ca/currentstudents/student-support/peer-support-programs

Trent International: Support for Trent students from around the world

The Trent International team can support international students with academic advising, housing, finances, health insurance, cultural transition, immigration, and many other challenges. TI provides workshops and advising to support the hundreds of international students who choose to study at Trent each year. https://www.trentu.ca/currentstudents/international

Your Student Association

Trent Central Student Association (TCSA), Trent Durham Student Association (TDSA) and the Trent Graduate Students’ Association (TGSA): all here to support and serve Trent students, remotely or in person.

Athletics & Recreation

Trent Athletics is dedicated to the health and well-being of our students and continues to offer online programs and information sessions, including: Campus Recreation e-sports, online trivia sessions, virtual fitness classes such as meditation and strength training and a library of free webinar sessions.

 

Friendly, Inclusive & Career-boosting Connections

Here at Trent, there is always a friendly face (and helping hand) to offer students the resources and support they need to succeed and thrive. We want to ensure students have what they need to connect and are carefully considering what barriers might exist for students – be they language barriers, technology gaps or accessibility needs.

Careerspace

Students can access all of the online career resources made available by Careerspace, and can book virtual appointments with career counsellors to get one-on-one support on taking the next step in planning for your career and life after Trent. https://www.trentu.ca/careerspace

Accessibility Services

Our dedicated staff in Accessibility Services provide support to students with disabilities through one-on-one advising, referrals to campus supports, and adaptive technology. Throughout the summer and as we transition back to campus, this team remains committed to supporting your academic success and are available to connect via email, phone and video conference. https://www.trentu.ca/wellness/sas

Counselling: Supporting the emotional and mental health of students

Trent Counselling Services is available to support students through confidential phone and one-on-one Zoom meetings. Health Services: Stay well with access to medical professionals

Trent Health Services supports Trent students with confidential primary health care, health promotion, disease prevention, and wellness education. Currently, they are delivering a hybrid model of services with a mix of virtual and in-patient care. https://www.trentu.ca/wellness/health

Human Rights, Equity & Accessibility

Providing education and outreach to the Trent University community on issues related to human rights, equity, and accessibility. Continuing to offer email and phone appointments as well as online workshops. https://www.trentu.ca/chrea

Spiritual Affairs: Support for students of all faith traditions

Trent University Spiritual Affairs provides support to students from all faith traditions, as well as students who are considering questions of meaning, purpose and identity. Technical & Remote Learning Supports

We want to ensure students have what they need to connect and are carefully considering what barriers might exist for students. We have some new and innovative solutions to support virtual learning environments.

Remote Learning Initiative: Computers for students in need *NEW*

Technology has allowed our community of scholars to remain connected even when physically distanced. Knowing that access to computers and other tools and technology can present a barrier for some students with financial needs, Trent has launched the Remote Learning Initiative (ReLI) to help students thrive in virtual environments. Through this program, eligible students will receive a Chromebook with all of the software/hardware required for online and remote learning. Watch for more information on how to apply.

Our collection of how-to guides can help you to be successful in your online courses.
