Reference List
According to the 17th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style, one of "the major reference work for citing Canadian public documents and legal cases in a Canadian Context is the Canadian Guide to Uniform Legal Citation", i.e. the McGill Guide (University of Chicago Press 2017, 885). As a result, Chicago Style generally follows the McGill Guide. See our McGill Documentation Guide for examples.
In-text Citations
Chicago Style uses Footnotes, Endnotes, and the Author-Date System. Keeping in line with the McGill Guide, it is generally recommended that you use either Footnotes or Endnotes for citing legal materials in-text. Visit our Chicago Style Guide for information on Chicago Footnotes and Endnotes.
