In interdisciplinary fields such as Canadian Studies, use the documentation method indicated on the syllabus. If none is given, it is best to follow the documentation method preferred in the discipline that most informs the essay that you are writing. For example, in a historical essay, use footnoting (Chicago style); in a social science essay APA style would be appropriate; in a literature essay, you would probably choose MLA.
