Key Points
- Grants are intended to cover the cost of full-time educational expenses
- Your service commitment is based off of how long you receive the grant for (maximum 24 months at one time)
- If you do not fulfil your service commitment, your grants will turn into Ontario student loans that must be repaid through the NSLSC
- Eligibility is not based off of income/resources
- You may also receive Full-Time OSAP while receiving OLSG
Service Commitment
Students who receive OLSG while at Trent must fulfill a service commitment within the Eastern Region. You agree to the service commitment as part of your application for OLSG.
When you enter into your service commitment timeframe, you will be responsible for completing your Verification of Employment and submitting this electronically to the Ministry.
Your grant funding will be converted to a repayable loan if you do not meet the required conditions.
How long is the Service Commitement?
A typical BScN student who completes a 4 year nursing degree can anticipate up to 24 months of a commitment after they graduate. If you are in the compressed or accelerated collaborate program, your service commitment may be less.
Who can I ask questions to?
Depending on the nature of your question, you may wish to speak with Financial Aid, the Nursing department or the Ministry directly.
While you are in studies, your questions around funding and applications should be directed to Financial Aid.
When you graduate, you will then be required to direct all questions to the Ministry.
Program Irregularities
OLSG anticipates that students will progress through their program and rarely deviate from the prescribed structure.
If you anticipate there will be a change in your program structure such as:
- a leave of absence
- repeating years
- transferring to another school
- changing program
It is crucial you speak with Financial Aid to discuss your continued OLSG eligibility and risk of grant conversion.
