OSAP & Co-op Program Funding

Co-op students are eligible to apply for OSAP during their study terms, as well as apply for full-time funding while completing their work term which will help with living costs.

OSAP should be applied to by term (i.e., a fall application, a winter application and a summer application).

You don’t pay tuition during your co-op work terms but you may pay a compulsory fee of $750 per work term to cover some costs of the co-op program as well as the applicable ancillary and levy fees as set by Trent University.  You can find specific billing information on the Student Accounts website here: https://www.trentu.ca/studentfinances/tuition-fees/ontario-students

Application Process

Entering Year 1 of your co-op program:

Apply through OSAP for a full academic year (a fall and winter application). You will be assessed for both terms in one application.  Summer studies can be applied to through a "summer extension" in the myTrent portal, available March of each year.

Entering Year 2+ of your co-op program:

Each semester of studies or work term requires a new OSAP application as your costs and earnings will change semester to semester. You will be assessed for funding one semester at a time.

  • If you are studying in the fall semester you would choose Fall Session - Undergraduate Programs as your program. To do this you will search "Fall" and all the applicable years will populate. You will select the Fall term of your current year and applicable campus.
    • Example: You are studying fall term of your first year and you are a Durham campus student. You will select Fall Session - Undergraduate Programs (Durham), year 1 of 4.

  • If you are studying in the winter semester you would choose Winter Session - Undergraduate Programs as your program. To do this you will search "Winter" and all the applicable years will populate. You will select the Winter term of your current year and applicable campus.
    • Example: You are studying winter term of your first year and you are a Durham campus student. You will select Winter Session - Undergraduate Programs (Durham), year 1 of 4.

  • There are co-op work terms for each semester that can be selected. You will search "CO-OP"  or "work" as the program name and select the applicable term and year.
    • For example: You are in year 2 and it is the summer work term. Your program name would be CO-OP Work Term Summer - Year 2.
