Rebound

What is Rebound?

Rebound is a peer-support program that provides students such as yourself with connections to resources, services and supports on campus to help you in your transition; it is meant for any first or second year student wanting to start University off on the right foot.

You are able to register online, where shortly after you’ll be connected  with a Rebound Peer Mentor; an upper year student to discuss how your university experience is going, provide answers and referrals to questions, work through any challenges you may be experiencing  and motivate you moving forward. In these confidential conversations they will help you to find resources you may not have known existed and help support your goals.

100% of this year’s participants said they would recommend Rebound to a peer because it helped them with their confidence and academic performance.

Ways to Access Rebound

Where possible, we link a student with a Rebound Peer Mentors (RPM) who is in a similar field of study. This is determined through our registration form: https://trentu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_d116dUC4l1XLbWm

Please note, student staff are not counselors or tutors, but they are committed to your academic wellness and here to listen to your concerns or talk things out.

What do students say about Rebound?

“Being able to meet 1 on 1 with an upper-year student in your field of study is a GREAT way to gain valuable knowledge.  The Rebound Peer Mentors are very knowledgeable and provide great study tips, information about your program and can assist you in many ways.  Everyone is so nice and helpful!! It’s a lot of fun too!”

“Rebound is the best thing I decided to do as a first year.  Despite the fact my grades were ok to start with, with the help of my  RPM I feel more successful and see that reflected in my grades and everyday life.”

“Rebound is a service that students should not be afraid of seeking out.  After having a rough start to my university career, going to Rebound helped restore personal confidence and a belief that I can achieve the goals and tasks I have in front of me.  I cannot recommend this program enough.”

Becoming a Rebound Guide

Rebound Peer Mentors are hired annually in the spring term to begin the next fall academic term.  All RPMs are paid above minimum wage and are expected to work in Peer Support as well as be an RPM, up to 7 hours per week.  Only students entering their third or fourth year of their undergraduate degree are eligible to apply to be a Rebound Peer Mentors.  Students interested in becoming an RPM should have some experience attending workshops focused on supporting their peers (e.g. Skills to Enhance Peer Support, SafeTALK etc.), some experience supporting their peers and have a strong interest in building mentoring relationships.

Ishkodehwin: Indigenous Mentorship Program

The Ishkodehwin Indigenous Peer Mentorship Program has been designed to assist incoming Indigenous students in making a successful transition to university life and academic expectations through peer-to-peer support.
