Spiritual Affairs

Trent University Spiritual Affairs is a program area of the Office of Student Affairs. Spiritual Affairs provides support to students from all faith traditions, as well as students who are not religious but are considering questions of meaning, purpose and identity. University life provides ample opportunity for personal growth and exploration - and at times, can be stressful. Our Chaplains and Community Liaisons are available to provide spiritual support to students as they navigate this complex and exciting life stage. Our multi-faith model is rooted in respect, understanding, and inclusion.

Spiritual Affairs is responsible for:

  • Coordinating the Multi-Faith Network - One-to-one spiritual support with volunteer Chaplains and Community Liaisons
  • Events and programming on themes of spirituality, identity, and equity
  • Recognition of religious holidays and observances via social media
  • Advice on religious accommodation for academic requirements
  • Maintenance of the Multi-Faith Room on campus - a space for reflection, prayer or quiet contemplation
  • Supporting dialogue across religious diversity in the campus community
  • Liaising with faith-based clubs on campus, and supporting the development of new clubs
  • Maintaining a local directory of places of worship
  • Referrals to other campus supports as needed

At Spiritual Affairs, we are faith-positive, but we don't endorse any particular faith. We encourage openness, inquiry, and spiritual growth. We denounce aggressive religious recruitment, and welcome you to reach out if you have negative experiences of this kind on the Trent Campus. We are queer-positive and can connect students to local faith communities that are affirming.

Questions or comments can be directed to Johanna Hart, Coordinator of Spiritual Affairs at Trent.

Calendar of Religious Holidays and Observances

Trent does not maintain an in-house calendar of religious holidays and observances. However, we do our best to recognize a variety of holidays on our social media channel. As traditions are diverse and religious observances are numerous and varied, we have chosen to acknowledge only those for which religious accommodation may be required, which suggests a holiday of significance.

To view a list of holidays and observances, we suggest the following calendars created by Encounter World Religions in Guelph, Ontario.
