If you are a new student starting at Trent in September 2026, please wait until after May 1st to complete our Pre-Intake Questionnaire.
The registration information on this page is primarily written using language and processes for students attending the Symons campus in Peterborough. However, the registration process for students at both campuses begins with completing the pre‑intake questionnaire (PIQ) in step 2.
For campus‑specific details on registering as a student in Durham, please follow the link for SAS @ Trent University Durham GTA.
1. Review our documentation requirements
Your documentation needs to be as recent as possible and must outline the functional limitations of your disability. If you have older or incomplete documentation, it is possible that interim accommodations may be implemented until more current or complete documentation is provided. Criteria regarding age of documentation is specific to the nature of a person's disability, and is outlined on the Documentation Requirements section of our website.
2. Login to the SAS Portal, Complete the Pre-Intake Questionnaire (PIQ)
All students who register with SAS begin the formal intake registration process by completing the Pre-Intake Questionnaire:

This questionnaire helps us to understand your academic needs. This questionnaire will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. Please have your disability documentation ready to upload to your questionnaire.
If you loaded this page in a browser tab, stepped away and returned later, refresh the page before continuing. Please complete the questionnaire within 30 minutes to avoid time‑outs or data loss.
During the PIQ, you will select either asynchronous or synchronous for your Intake type.
Synchronous Intake:
Monitor your email for next steps; you will receive an invitation to attend an in-person or Zoom Intake appointment with a SAS Advisor to discuss your accommodation needs. Wait time: 2-3 weeks; longer during peak volume times like the start of the semester (September and October).
Asynchronous Intake:
Monitor your email for next steps; your SAS Advisor will review your documentation and notify you of your accommodation plan in addition to how to notify your professors, book tests at the CAT with accommodations (if needed), and request peer-provided lecture notes (if needed). Wait time: less than 2 weeks.
The asynchronous intake option is currently only available for students registering with SAS in Peterborough.

3. Monitor your email for communication.
If you selected Synchronous, SAS will connect to schedule an appointment, either in-person or via Zoom. You and your SAS Advisor will develop an accommodation plan based on your strengths and your documented areas of need.
If you selected Asynchronous, a SAS Advisor will review your documentation and send you the supporting accommodation plan. You are always welcome to connect with your SAS Advisor with any questions.
Information about your disability is not disclosed to your professors. At this point, you will now be considered fully registered with SAS at Trent. Remember every semester you will need to notify your professors your accommodation plan.
