Student Health Services is available to all current students who are registered at Trent University Symons Campus. Most appointments are free of charge as long as you have provincia/territorial or UHIP insurance coverage. For all appointments, you will be required to show your Provincial Health Card (e.g. OHIP) or International Insurance card (COWAN), along with your current student card.
Ontario Students: OHIP (Ontario Health Card)
OHIP covers physician services, hospitalization, and most imaging and laboratory services. Dental visits, audiologist, and optometry visits are not covered by OHIP. Please refer to the Trent Student Benefit Plan for coverage information.
Students From Other Provinces/Territories
If you have a valid health card from another province or territory, Trent Student Health Services will bill directly to your home province or territory. For students from Quebec, we will require you to sign a claim form for each time you have an appointment with a physician. We will then submit the form directly to Quebec (RAMQ) to request reimbursement.
International Students: UHIP COWAN
If you are an international student, UHIP COWAN insurance will pay for most physician services and medical tests, as well as for hospital visits. Please note that if you have a chronic medical condition and you need to seek care at the hospital, this may not be covered under UHIP COWAN. Please contact Trent International (uhip@trentu.ca) for more information about your coverage.

Students with no insurance
It is very important to make sure that you have health insurance, either through your province/territory, or through UHIP COWAN, so that you do not end up with unexpected medical expenses. If you do not have insurance, you will be responsible for payment if you need to seek medical care. If you are unsure if you have insurance, please reach out to us.
