Funding Information for Trent Faculty and Staff

Trent Work Study Program

The Trent Work Study Program offers partial funding of student employee positions to employers in the Trent University community. Each year our employer partners host hundreds of Trent Work Study Program funded positions, providing students with opportunities to develop skills, prepare for their careers, and earn additional income to help with their educational costs.

Any on campus student employer can apply to receive funding. Past employers include academic and administrative departments, faculty, campus service providers, and student associations and levy groups.

Questions about recruiting for your TWSP on-campus position?

TWSP funding does not require you to post your position on the Job Board, as there is a separate application form via myTrent. However, Careerspace hosts the Student and Alumni Job Board which is actively used by the student body and is the most effective way to recruit students for your position.

You may include the line "position is subject to funding approval" if you have not yet heard confirmation of your TWSP application.

There are two ways to access the Trent University Student and Alumni Job Board:

  1. myTrent portal > Support > Campus Support > Student and Alumni Job Board
  2. ccr.trentu.ca > select 'Staff and Faculty' Login > login with myTrent credentials

Summer Subsidies

The Summer Employment Opportunities (formerly known as the Summer Experience Program)

DEADLINE: Applications must be in to Careerspace (careers@trentu.ca) by Monday, March 22, 2021 by 9 a.m.

The Summer Employment Opportunities, formerly known as the Summer Experience Program, has been officially launched.  This program of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities is intended to provide valuable entry-level work experience for Ontario youth and enables participants to develop transferable, career-related skills. You must pay the student out of your budget and you will get the reimbursement sometime between January and March of the following year.  Maximum reimbursement per position will be $3,723 (full contract length of fourteen weeks).  Positions will be funded at the provincial minimum wage of $14.25 per hour plus 6% for benefits (CPP and EI).  Funding for any SEO employee students that work less than fourteen weeks will be reimbursed on a pro-rated basis.

The earliest start date for the student employee will be April 19, 2021 and employment must end by September 5, 2021.

Careerspace co-ordinates the collection of the Ontario Summer Employment Opportunities (SEO) funding applications for Trent faculty and staff. Only one application per department can be submitted to Careerspace to be considered for submission to the government.

You will be required to complete the Proposal Form and email it to careers@trentu.ca by 9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 22, 2021.  Once we hear back from the government about the successful applications, we will contact you and will follow up with next steps.
