Navigating a career can be a confusing process. There are many paths and opportunities to explore, and a variety of approaches you can use to work towards your goals. With all these options, career planning can feel confusing and challenging, and trans and nonbinary people may have questions in addition to those we all wonder about: How do I know if an employer supports trans and nonbinary people? What are my options for sharing my gender identity when I’m looking for a job? This guide aims to help trans and nonbinary students and recent alumni to figure out their career possibilities, connect to resources, effectively apply for jobs, and excel in their career. There are questions that this guide won’t be able to answer, but the hope is that it provides you with a solid starting point for taking the next steps in your career.

Peterborough Aids Resource Network (PARN):
A community-based agency providing support and health promotion for people HIV-infected and HIV-affected. PARN provides education for people at risk for HIV and awareness of HIV issues to the broader community.
Gender Affirming Spaces Project (GASP!):
Hosts gender affirming events in Peterborough including Swap & Chop which provides free haircuts and clothing to 2S, Trans, and GNC individuals.
The Trans Peer Outreach program offers no-cost support and services for transgender and gender-diverse people, to assist them to improve the quality of their lives through the provision of community-based, client-centered care that supports positive interdependence.

On Campus Support
Out on Campus: A confidential discussion group for Trent students who are questioning their sexuality, gender identity or are in the process of coming out. This is a group led by students who have come out to their family and friends.
Peer Support: The Peer Support program creates a warm and welcoming space for all Trent students to receive support from their peers.The program is free, non-judgmental, and confidential. To visit the Peer Support drop-in space, go to the 3rd floor of the Student Centre and find your way to room 3.04. There you will find the Peer Support room! There are lots of activities (arts & crafts, puzzles, etc) and a student staff person as well as a volunteer to welcome you. Peer Support also has a one-on-one room right beside the drop-in space if you are looking for some privacy to speak to a Peer Supporter. Your Peer Support staff are available Monday to Friday from 12 pm to 3pm.
You Belong Here: Designed to support students’ well-being and academic success at Trent, YBH includes a program of 4 weekly interactive group sessions with peer and Trent staff facilitators, individual appointments with Academic Advising and Academic Skills, regular email check-ins and 1-on-1 meetings with YBH Community Connectors (upper year students with shared lived experience).
Counselling: Trent Counselling Services provides free, confidential, short-term mental health support to all registered Trent students. Our dedicated therapists promote mental health and wellness with the goal of helping students participate fully in the Trent community. Appointments are available both in-person and virtually.
Trent Queer Collective: Trent University’s and the Peterborough/Nogojiwanong organization for marginalized groups working to build and strengthen an active queer community at Trent and in the surrounding area.
Trent Durham Pride Club (TDSA): An inclusive LGBTQ+ club dedicated to promoting LGBTQ+ issues and perspectives on the Trent Durham campus.
Wellness: The mission of the Student Wellness Centre is to provide integrated services to address the holistic needs of students studying at Trent. The Student Wellness Centre consists of Counselling, Health & Accessibility Services. All services are strictly confidential and co-located in Blackburn Hall.
Trent Durham Student Association (TDSA): represents all full time and part time students of Trent University Durham. The Student Association provides a variety of services and events which reflect the interest and needs of Trent University Durham students. TDSA also supports and sponsors student clubs, student health and dental benefits, and continually works to grow and expand the scope of its advocacy, activities, and programs.
Trent Central Student Association: The Trent Central Student Association is a union run for, and by, undergraduate students at Trent University. We're a non-profit organization that helps students share ideas, create change, gain new skills and access help and support while at university. In addition to advocacy and lobby efforts, the TCSA also provides a variety of services and events for its members including a Used Book Consignment program, student discount map, free student agenda, a student benefits plan, social events, campaigns, workshops, and more.
