Provincial and Territorial Student Aid Programs
Students who are Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents or Protected Persons may be eligible to access Financial Assistance. If you do not meet Ontario Residency you must apply to the province in which you last resided for 12 months without being a post secondary student. Students receiving aid from outside of Ontario (within Canada) are eligible to apply for most Financial Aid bursaries. The application is open at the beginning of each semester on the myTrent portal, under Finances. Proof of funding may be required. |
Fall and Winter ApplicationsApplications typically become available from your home province/territory around May every year. Summer ApplicationsContact your home province/territory’s financial aid provider several months prior to the start of the summer session classes (i.e. March when you have chosen your summer timetable). They will help you to determine the process, your eligibility, and time frames for applications.

- The date the COE request is received from your province
Eligibility
Your registration must match what is in the COE system (i.e. if the system says you are full time in a 60% course load you must be registered as such)

Once your COE is completed you will not be notified by our office. You will however be notified via your TrentU email if there are any issues with your COE.
Receiving Your Funding
Your funding will be released by your home province after the Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) is completed
How funding is delivered
If the Financial Aid Office is able to, your funding will be remitted to Trent in the amount required to pay your balance. This may be some of your funding or all of your funding disbursement depending on your assessment. It will be applied to your student account as soon as it has been received at the university's Student Accounts Office.
If your province or territory does not allow student aid funding to be paid directly to Trent it will be directly deposited into the bank account you have indicated with your home province or territory.
Paying Your Fees
Your remitted amount if applicable may cover all of your fees in which case you would not have to pay anything further.
If they do not or your province does not allow funds to be directed to Trent you will need to pay your account directly.
It is the students responsibility to ensure all fees are paid in full each term by the payment deadline.
You can view your account statement by logging into your myTrent portal and navigating to the Finances tab. There you will see an icon that indicates Account Statement.
