Lab Services will from time to time break down or stop working. The correct process for reporting problems and getting them fixed is listed by item below.
Electrical outlet not working:
If an electrical outlet appears to have stopped working there are a couple of possibilities as to why. Either the outlet itself is damaged or a circuit has been overloaded resulting in an electrical panel breaker switch deactivating. If an outlet is not working, you may contact Science Facilities and we will investigate. Depending on the cause and the location we may need to contact Facilities Management but often we can determine that quickly. If you choose to contact Facilities Management directly at fixit@trentu.ca we simply ask that you cc Angela Sikma for awareness of the issue and followup if necessary.
For after hours problems (after 4:30 pm and on weekends and holidays) contact Security at (705) 748-1333.
Plumbing Problems (water not working, drains plugged or leaking water:
If you are having domestic water problems of some type you will need to contact Facilities Management at fixit@trentu.ca. You can still contact us as well as we would like to made aware of the issue with a cc from your email to fixit@trentu.ca.
If the issue is uncontrolled leakage, contact Security at (705) 748-1333, Facilities Management at (705) 748-1366 or Angela Sikma so that the emergency response can be initiated as quickly as possible.
If you are having problems with the lab grade water, you should contact either Angela.
Fumehoods not functioning or in alarm:
If the fumehood is not working or in alarm, do not use. Secure any open chemical, close the sash and contact Facilities Management immediately at (705) 748-1328. Following the initial contact with FM please let Angela know about the issue as well. Post the Fumehood as "Do not use" until it has been looked at by Facilities Management.
Other Lab Services:
If any of the other lab services are non-functional, contact Angela. We will investigate and contact Facilities Management.
