Wheel Clamp

Wheel clamps are used as a parking enforcement measure that is less disruptive and less costly for parking clients than towing. If a vehicle is towed, the owner or driver is responsible for arranging transportation to the towing compound and paying the towing and storage fees, which are approximately $180 plus tax. Any outstanding parking violations must still be paid, and a valid parking permit must be obtained if the individual wishes to continue parking at Trent. Failure to resolve outstanding parking fees may result in the vehicle being prohibited from parking on campus.

A vehicle that accumulates a third unpaid parking violation at Trent will be subject to a wheel clamp and will receive notice that the vehicle may be towed upon any subsequent violation. If a fourth unpaid violation occurs, the vehicle may again be wheel clamped and arrangements for towing may be initiated. Vehicles may also be towed immediately if all wheel clamps are in use, if the vehicle is parked in an unsafe manner, or if it blocks access or egress for other vehicles.

Wheel clamps are secured with a yellow traffic cone to ensure the driver is aware of the device and does not attempt to move the vehicle. Attempting to drive a vehicle with a wheel clamp attached may cause significant damage to the vehicle.

Instructions for arranging removal of the wheel clamp will be provided on the cone. During business hours, drivers must contact Parking Services; after hours, Security Services should be contacted. The driver will be required to provide valid identification and resolve all outstanding parking violations, including payment of the $45 wheel clamp removal fee. Once payment and identification have been confirmed, Parking or Security staff will remove the clamp.

The wheel clamp process provides several benefits to drivers, including avoiding the inconvenience of retrieving a vehicle from an off-site towing compound and paying significantly higher towing fees.

Please note that vehicles with five or more unpaid violations, or vehicles that have previously been wheel clamped, may be towed at the discretion of Parking Services. In addition, after-hours response times may be delayed if Security Services are attending to emergency calls
