Trent University’s winter holiday begins Wednesday, December 24 with most academic and administrative operations at the Peterborough and Durham GTA campuses wrapping up for the break at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23.

Many campus operations and services resume usual operations on Monday, January 5, 2026. Winter term classes resume at both campuses on Wednesday, January 7. 

Below is a comprehensive summary of office and departmental hours around the winter holiday. If you do not see a specific service or office listed, be sure to check department websites and socials as hours may vary. 

Student Residences 

The Student Housing Office – The Blackburn Hall office closes at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 19 and reopens for regular hours on Monday, January 5. 

Peterborough – Undergraduate residences on Symons Campus close for winter break as of at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 19 and reopen at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 5. Graduate residences at Traill College remain open during the winter break. 

Durham – Durham Campus residence closes at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 19 and reopens at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 5. 

In Peterborough and Durham, only students who have registered and received confirmation of their acceptance to the winter break will be permitted in residence during the break period.

Campus Safety Operations  

Campus Safety will remain on duty 24/7 throughout the holiday break. All building exterior doors, labs, and classrooms will be locked. Access cards will continue to allow entry to non-residence buildings. You are required to inform Campus Security in advance of the break if you must access a campus building during the break.  

Persons without access cards and/or keys to non-residence buildings will require prior written approval from their department head that clearly specifies the time(s) and location(s) of required access. Please contact Campus Security to gain access under these circumstances.

Library Services 

Bata Library – The library closes at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23. Bata Library reopens at 8 a.m. on Monday, January 5.  

Archives & Special Collections – The archives close at 4 p.m. on Friday, December 19 and reopen at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 5.  

Durham Campus Library & Learning Centre (DLLC) – The DLLC closes at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23 and reopens at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 5.

College Offices 

College Offices close at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23 and reopen at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 5.  

Academic Advising – Same-day appointments are available until Friday, December 19 at 4 p.m. and then resume at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7. Visit the website for details and to book an appointment. 

Academic Skills – Appointments will be available up to Friday, December 19 at 4p.m. and will resume at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7.Visit the website for details and to book an appointment. 

Student Wellness 

Health Services will close at 4 p.m. on Friday, December 19, and Student Accessibility (SAS) and Counselling will close at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23. All Student Wellness Centre services will reopen at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 5. 

The Peer Support Program is closed after Friday, December 5 and reopens for regular hours the week of Monday, January 5. 

Other University and Student Services 

Athletics Centre – The AC will be closed on the following days:  

• Wednesday, December 24  
• Thursday, December 25  
• Friday, December 26  
• Wednesday, December 31  
• Thursday, January 1  

The AC is open with modified hours from December 20-23, December 27-30, and January 2-4. Regular hours resume Monday, January 5. Check the Athletics Centre website for details.  

Campus Card Office – Closes at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23 and reopens at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 5.   

Campus Food Services – All campus dining locations are closed from December 19 through January 3, with some services reopening on January 4. For details on holiday hours and available services visit the Food Services website.  

Campus Tours – The final day for campus tours prior to the break is Tuesday, December 23 In-person tours will resume on Monday, January 5. Visit Discover Trent to see all the ways you can connect with us virtually. Book your campus tour now.  

Careerspace – Closes at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23 and reopens with appointments beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, January 5. Visit the Careerspace website for details and book an appointment through the Student Experience Portal.  

First Peoples House of Learning – Closes at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23 and reopens at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 5.  

Human Resources/Payroll – Closes at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23 and reopens at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, January 5.  

I.T. Service Desk – Closes at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23 and reopens at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, January 5. Visit the Trent Information Technology website for details and resources.  

Office of the Registrar – Closes at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23 and reopens at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 5.  

Parking Services – Closes at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23 and reopens at 8 a.m. on Monday, January 5.  

Campus Print and Shipping & Receiving Centre – Closes at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23 and reopens at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, January 5. The satellite dock in Peterborough closes on Friday, December 19.

Student Accounts – Closes at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23 and reopens at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 5. 

School of Graduate Studies – Closes at 4 p.m. on Monday, December 22 and reopens at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 5.   

Trent Campus Store – Closes at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23 and reopens at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, January 5. Online ordering remains available throughout the holiday break; orders placed during the holiday closure will be completed on January 5. 

Trent International – The TI office in Champlain College will close at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23 and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, January 5. On non-statutory holiday weekdays during the holiday break, the TI phone line (705-748-1011 ext. 1314) will continue to be monitored; callers are encouraged to leave a voicemail and can expect their call returned within one business day. The international@trentu.ca and internationalfrontdesk@trentu.ca inboxes will also be monitored. 

Starbucks (in the Student Centre) – Closes at 3 p.m. on Friday, December 19 and reopens at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 5.
