Trent Teaching Commons
Trent Teaching Commons offers a host of professional learning opportunities for all members of the Trent teaching community, encompassing instructors, graduate students, departments, staff and administrators.
Trent Teaching Commons supports members through events such as workshops, panel discussions, lunch & learn series and individual consultations. They also offer teaching supports on a wide array of topics including curriculum development & learning outcomes, assessments practices, teaching portfolios, course design, pedagogy discussions, active learning strategies, educational technology applications, and educational leadership opportunities.

Three Minute Thesis (3MT®)
The Three Minute Thesis Competition (3MT®) at Trent presents Master’s and Ph.D. students with the ultimate challenge: explain your complex and highly specialized research and ideas to a general audience in just three minutes, using only one Power Point slide. This event is presented by Traill College and Academic Skills at Trent University.

Careerspace and Student Employment
Careerspace offers valuable learning tools with an opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience to prepare graduate students for life after Trent. Through Careerspace, you can book appointments, as well as access workshops, online resources, and opportunities to connect with employers and recruiters. Services are free for all Trent students and alumni.
Explore career options, get resume assistance, and learn how to apply your degree to future opportunities. Current students can also explore employment opportunities on campus through the Student Experience Portal.
The Career and Workforce Readiness e-Course is free and openly accessible, with six modules that can be completed at your own pace. Each module will take approximately 1-1.5 hours to complete and covers the following career readiness topics:
- Skills identification & articulation (technical & transferable)
- Resume & cover letter writing
- Networking & LinkedIn
- Job search strategies & the labour market
- Interview skills
- Workplace communication & professionalism

Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA)
Graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) are offered automatically to eligible graduate students enrolled in research programs as part of the funding package. If granted, the GTA assignment will be outlined in your offer of admission. An application is not required. If you have been offered a GTA position, please visit our GTA webpage for more information.
Students enrolled in professional programs are not eligible for a GTA position but can explore other employment opportunities on campus via the Student Experience Portal.

Devant is a Canadian career development platform that helps students, recent grads, and newcomers succeed in the job market.
International students can access tools and workshops to prepare for career success in Canada. Free services include Resume Tools, Live Online Events (Networking, Immigration, Expert Panels), Virtual Hiring Expos, Bi-Weekly Newsletter and Facebook Community Access. Additional services are available through paid membership options.

Micro-credentials
Micro-credentials are unique educational certifications that acknowledge an individual's accomplishments in specific skills. They differ from traditional education credentials, such as degrees and diplomas, in that they are shorter, customizable, and provide distinct value and relevance in the ever-changing job market.
They are used to develop specific competencies and skills in short, targeted courses.
They can cover a wide variety of subjects, ranging from senior police leadership to knowledge management and communication of research. They typically range in commitment from 6 - 30 hours to complete.

MITACS Training (Professional Development)
Mitacs Training provides professional skills development courses for all Canadian university students. To register for these courses, visit the EDGE portal, create an account and choose the e-learning course you would like to take under the ‘Catalog’ heading of the Mitacs Training page. All courses listed below are self-paced e-learning (asynchronous) and are available throughout the year.
