Here’s a breakdown of what your students first year might look like, and the deadlines you should keep in mind each month:
Grade 12 year
- September to January: Exploring and applying by the OUAC Deadline January 15th
- November: Prestigious Scholarships Applications Open
- November: Open Houses take place at both campusesFebruary: Housing applications open
- March: Deadline to apply to prestigious scholarships
- June: Deadline to accept offers, deadline to apply to housing for residence guarantee, housing self-selection period for incoming first years, tuition deposit for fall starts, course registration opens for fall
- July: Summer Connect, Entrance Bursaries application deadline
- August: First installment of tuition for fall starts

- September: Move in, Orientation Week, classes start
- October: Fall Reading Week
- December: Exams, Winter Break
- January: Winter semester classes start
- February: Winter Reading Week
- April: Final day of classes, Exams
Academic Term Glossary
Degree: Often referred to as ‘Bachelor’ or ‘undergraduate’ degrees, this is the first level of study, often a three- (general) or four-year (honours) program.
Major: This describes the primary area of study within a degree. A major is the focus discipline within a degree.
Minor: An optional secondary field of study that can be added to your degree. It can be related, or different from your major.
Specializations: Offered within specific degrees, specializations are focused areas within a major to identify a particular interest. This helps students communicate to future employers about their focused interests within their field of study.
Options: Can be added to any degree and consists of a focused set of courses outside your major. Options are best for exploring interests.
Diplomas: Completed in 12-24 months, often lead to a degree program, and are great for enhancing broad-based knowledge.
Joint Majors: Combine almost any two majors to combine interests and gain a career edge.
