This course fulfills requirements by the Canadian Council on Animal Care for basic training on the principles of humane use of animals in teaching and research, including ethical issues associated with the use of those animals. Material is delivered through a mix of readings, video, and gamification. The underlying purpose is to foster a philosophy of compassion and respect for human and non-human stakeholders.
This badge would be advantageous to anyone going on to work with live animals in a Canadian college, university, or any institution accepting Federal grant money for teaching or research with live animals (e.g., hospitals, private research). There are likely other industries that would look at this as an opportunity to support continuing education of their personnel, such as veterinary medicine, commercial companies, or the pet care industry.
