Faryon Bridge Rehabilitation Begins February 3
Contractor work areas set up on East Bank with some traffic impacts expected along Nassau Mills Drive
February 2, 2026
Contractors for the Faryon Bridge Rehabilitation project will arrive on campus February 3, setting up work areas under the bridge along Nassau Mills Road.
As part of initial preparatory work, crews will be setting up access, staging areas, and safety infrastructure over the next two weeks.
Traffic Changes on Nassau Mills Drive
As a result of work, traffic impacts are expected along Nassau Mills Road. A temporary lane closure will allow for the installation of fencing and temporary work zones, as well as the movement of equipment and crews accessing the area beneath the bridge.
This phase of work may result in intermittent noise, traffic delays, and increased construction presence on the East Bank.
Safe Travel on Campus
People traveling through the stretch of Nassau Mills Road near the Faryon Bridge are advised to move with caution, follow posted signage, and allow extra time for travel.
A reminder that a pedestrian path across the bridge will remain open to support campus flow through the project. Please use extra caution when crossing the bridge during this project.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as this essential work moves forward.
Faryon Bridge Rehabilitation to Begin in February
Work will ensure long-term safety and reliability of heritage infrastructure essential to campus operations
January 20, 2026
Trent University will begin a rehabilitation of the Faryon Bridge in February following approval of capital funding by the Board of Governors in December. Independent engineering assessments confirmed the urgent need for this work to maintain structural integrity and protect the health and safety of those who use it. This multi-year project, expected to continue into 2027, will include structural repairs, deck and balustrade replacements, waterproofing, and electrical upgrades.
A University-designated Level 1 heritage asset, the Faryon Bridge is a vital part of campus infrastructure. In addition to serving as the main pedestrian connection between the east and west banks, the bridge carries utilities and communications systems that support academic programs, research, residences, and student services. Rehabilitation will preserve the bridge’s original design while ensuring its safe use for decades to come. Acting now is critical to maintain safety and avoid significantly higher costs in the future.
Bridge access during construction
A pedestrian route across the bridge will remain open throughout the project. Any temporary closures required for scheduled work will be communicated in advance. Please use caution and follow posted signage.
Convocation and campus events
Safety requirements, noise, and site disruption mean that convocation ceremonies cannot be held outdoors. All 2026 Peterborough ceremonies will take place at the Athletics Centre, a proven venue that offers a safe, accessible, and memorable experience for graduates and guests. Details and updates about convocation 2026 are available at trentu.ca/convocation.
Stay up to date
Full details about the project, including timelines and FAQs, are available on the Campus Projects Hub website. Be sure to check back for updates. Updates will also be shared on myTrent, campus digital signs, and the TrentU Safety App.
Faryon Bridge: Exclusionary Netting Installation Begins March 31
March 28, 2025
As part of early preparations for the upcoming rehabilitation of the Faryon Bridge, expected to begin in July 2025, contractors will be installing exclusionary netting beneath the structure from March 31 to April 4. The netting is designed to prevent migratory birds from nesting in the bridge during the spring season, helping to ensure that future construction can proceed safely and on schedule.
Work will take place on both the East and West Banks of the Symons Campus, with activity near Nassau Mills Road and the President’s Walk. Some short-term, temporary interruptions to campus traffic are expected.
The Faryon Bridge rehabilitation project reflects Trent’s ongoing commitment to a safe, accessible, vibrant and beautiful campus environment with architecturally significant features for all.
Please use caution when travelling around or beneath the bridge during this time.
