Construction Advancing on Water Street Student Residences
Phased upper-year housing project south of campus will add more than 100 beds to the Peterborough community by September 2026
December 22, 2025
Construction is advancing on the new upper-year student residences located on Water Street, just south of campus. Led by Residence Development Corporation (RDC) in close coordination with the University, the project will house more than 300 new student beds to the Peterborough community once fully complete.
The development supports Trent’s long-term campus planning and responds to ongoing housing pressures by expanding purpose-built student housing on university lands.
The project is being delivered in two phases:
- Phase 1: Construction of 108 student beds targeted for completion by September 2026. This first building is a standalone residence and will be available for student occupancy once complete.
- Phase 2: Two additional buildings with approximately 200 more beds, delivered following Phase 1.
Construction activity for Phase 1 is progressing as planned. In 2025, work permits were approved, allowing RDC to mobilize workers on site. A retaining wall has been completed as part of early construction work. Excavation and foundation work have been completed, and structural work is now underway, with first-floor walls beginning to take shape.
Throughout construction, Residence Development Corporation and its partners are working closely with the University to meet all municipal requirements, uphold safety standards, and minimize disruption to nearby residential areas and businesses.
