The Trent Teaching Commons is pleased to offer an opportunity for Trent faculty to engage in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning next summer! Our “summer camp” will take place between June 21 and 23, 2027,at Elmhirst's Resort in Keene, ON. The retreat will be facilitated by the TTC’s Education Developer (SoTL) and an experienced Canadian SoTL scholar whose visit is sponsored by our Distinguished Visiting Teaching Scholars fund.
Summer camp events include:
- Talks and workshops on topics in SoTL research
- Collaborative working time
- Time for independent work
- Project consultations with the visiting SoTL scholar and Education Developer (SoTL).
Our summer camp is a great opportunity for individuals to carve out dedicated work time on their research projects. We also encourage applications from research teams of two or more scholars who would benefitfrom this time to connect and collaborate on teaching and learning research.
We will also have time for leisure and opportunities to explore the resort property. Potential activities include hiking, biking, canoeing, swimming, and taking part in group games like an escape maze. Meals and shared accommodations will be provided for our “campers”.
*Please note that each camper will have their own bedroom within shared cottages. Cottage rooming assignments will be decided by the TTC based on need and availability.*
We invite applications from Trent faculty across departments and disciplines who are engaged in teaching and learning research.

1. Proposed plan for the retreat (2-3 pages) including:
- The project you’d like to work on
- What you hope to learn at the retreat
- Areas of interest in SoTL
- If you would be willing to facilitate a small group session
- Relevant SoTL experience
2. A CV highlighting work specifically related to teaching and SoTL engagement
