SoTL Communities of Practice

The Scholars’ Table.

The Scholars’ Table Community of Practice (CoP) brings together faculty and staff from across Trent University who share a mutual interest in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. This CoP meets 1-2 times per semester to explore topics in SoTL and provide opportunities for discussion amongst SoTL scholars.

All Trent Teaching Fellows and Wickerson Foundation Fund grant recipients are encouraged to participate in the CoP to support their ongoing projects. All faculty and staff are invited to join, whether you are currently working on a project, starting to develop an idea, or just want to learn more about SoTL!

Information about Scholars’ Table events for 2026-2027 will be available soon.

Past sessions include:

  • “Going Public” with SoTL (March 2026)
  • SoTL Research Methods (November 2025)
  • Conducting Lit Reviews with Dr. Fergal O’Hagan (April 2025)
  • SoTL Concepts and Frameworks (October 2025)
  • Ungrading and Alternative Assessment: Learning from SoTL Research and Faculty Experience (April 2024)
  • Getting Started in SoTL for Graduate Students (March 2024)
  • Technology in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (December 2024)
  • Sharing the Complete Results of SoTL Research: What Worked, What Didn’t, and Why (October 2024)
  • SoTL, Ethics, and the REB with Dr. Lisa Fedoruk (August 2023)

If you are a Trent faculty or staff member interested in joining the Scholars’ Table CoP, please email devonstillwell@trentu.ca to be added to the mailing list.

Description

SoTL Education Developer Working Group

Trent is one of a dozen Canadian institutions of higher education represented in a national working group specifically for SoTL Education Developers. The working group meets virtually once per month to share our faculty development initiatives; discuss questions or challenges arising from our work; and spread the word about upcoming SoTL events of mutual interest. Our goal is to foster connection amongst Ed Developers doing this work across Canada and build capacity for scholarly inquiry and resource development.

If you are an Ed Developer interested in joining the working group, please email devonstillwell@trentu.ca
