Teaching and Learning Annual Report 2024

Distinguished Visiting Teaching Scholars

Each year, we are proud to host a series of Distinguished Visiting Teaching Scholars. These award-winning faculty, including Canadian Research Chairs and 3M national award winners, bridge research and practice in order to infuse new ideas and energy into teaching across the University, and develop Trent faculty’s capacity to study their own teaching practices.

Endowed by a generous philanthropic donation, the Distinguished Visiting Teaching Scholars program includes events ranging from workshops to keynotes, allowing for informal discussion and personalized support for those interested in meeting one-to-one or in small group with the Scholars.

Nominations:

Trent faculty are welcome to submit nominations for our Distinguished Visiting Teaching Scholars program. Faculty are also encouraged to consider hosting visiting scholars within their own departments, or co-hosting scholars in conjunction with the Trent Teaching Commons. There are 3 nomination types; please complete the form that is most appropriate for the scholar you would like to invite and the event you would like to plan.

1. Nominations for Individual Scholars

Faculty may choose to nominate one individual with expertise in teaching and learning for the Distinguished Visiting Teaching Scholars program. Complete the DVTS Core Program form if you feel that Trent faculty from many departments across the university would benefit from engaging with this scholar during their visit.

2. Panel Presentations or Themed Speakers Series

Faculty may wish to host a panel presentation for a particular event; they may also wish to host several scholars on a given topic across the academic year. Please note that the panel or theme speakers' series is limited to 3 speakers. Complete the DVTS themed series or panel form if you are interested in hosting more than one speaker.

3. Departmental Nominations

The TTC offers departments the opportunity to host a Distinguished Visiting Teaching Scholar of benefit to teaching and learning specifically within their discipline. Faculty (in co-ordination with their Department Chairs) may nominate a speaker; planning and hosting duties will be the responsibility of the nominating department with financial support from the Trent Teaching Commons. Please complete the DVTS Departmental Nomination form to host a teaching scholar within your department.

Please note that while we will do our best to support faculty in bringing their desired speaker to Trent, requests are subject to available funding and scheduling constraints.
