Research Impact Award (established 2020)
This annual award recognizes the Trent University researcher or research team stewarding original and impactful research which has contributed significantly to society (local, regional, national or international).
Nominations are closed for the 2025 Research Impact Award.
Eligibility:
- Any faculty, staff, post doc, adjunct, associate or team affiliated with Trent University research can nominate or stand for nomination
- The individual, or if a team, the Principal Investigator, must be formally affiliated with Trent University for at least 3 years
- Self‐nomination is acceptable (with 2 reference letters: one internal and one external to Trent University)
- Equity, diversity and inclusion are considered in all nominations
- Students are not eligible for this award, unless they are key members of the nominated research team
Research Impact Award Terms of Reference
2025 Research Impact Award Recipient: Dr. Thomas Hossie
Dr. Hossie, an Assistant Professor in Biology at Trent University since 2018, leads an externally funded research program on a federally endangered salamander complex on Pelee Island. Over the past decade, his work has closed critical knowledge gaps, discovered new populations, characterized genetic diversity, and guided habitat restoration. He has mentored numerous students and engaged the local community through outreach and collaboration with environmental organizations. Recognized by the Nature Conservancy of Canada and the Ministry of the Environment for its impact on species recovery, this work earned Dr. Hossie the Trent University 2025 Research Impact Award.
