Earth Day 2018

Within the Trent School of the Environment, Trent’s innovative and dynamic environmental programs and unparalleled hands-on experience opportunities prepare students for success in future careers in such wide-ranging fields as water pollution, climate change, environmental law and policy, natural resource stewardship, or sourcing renewable energy alternatives. With 12 on campus nature areas, approximately 1,400 acres of land, and the Otonabee River running right through campus, there’s no better place to study the environment.

Want to know more about some of our newest (and longest-running) environmental programs. Read on!

  • Conservation Biology Co-op B.Sc. – Study the science behind conserving the world’s wildlife and their habitats. In this program, new for fall 2018, students look at the science behind the decline of biological diversity to better understand the solutions to this worldwide crisis. This program also offers students an interactive co-op and placement option, allowing them to take all that they learn in the lecture and lab into the real world.

  • Environmental Geoscience B.Sc. – Students in this program study the interaction between human activities and earth systems. Specialized, hands-on training opportunities abound in the program, giving students the career advantage in the growing field of environmental geoscience, including techniques used in geotechnical investigations.

  • Water Sciences B.Sc.  – This program ensures future environmental leaders and scientists will be equipped with the expertise to solve problems related to the quantity and the quality of our world's most precious resource.

  • B.A. / B.Sc. in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems – Offers students the opportunity to understand issues in organic food, farming, fair trade and many other aspects of food and agriculture from a scientific, political and social perspective.

  • Environmental and Resource Science/Studies B.Sc./B.A. (ERS) – One of the first environmental programs to be launched at a Canadian university, and the first program to be officially accredited to the National Standard of Environmental Programs in Canada by ECO Canada.

  • Indigenous Environmental Studies – Trent is the only university in Canada to offer this unique program bringing together principles of both Indigenous knowledge and western science in a unique and collaborative approach to learning.
