Please note: Dr. Tana J. Allen will begin her role as vice-president, Research & Innovation on September 1, 2026. Until then, Dr. Stephanie Rutherford will serve as interim vice-president, Research & Innovation and should be contacted for matters related to the Office of Research & Innovation.
The Office of the Vice-President, Research & Innovation supports Trent University’s research community by advancing discovery, collaboration, innovation, and responsible research practices across disciplines.

Meet Tana
Dr. Tana J. Allen is an internationally recognized classical archaeologist, social historian, and accomplished senior academic administrator with a strong record of advancing research, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her scholarship explores ancient architecture, medical practices, and the relationship between health, society, and place in the ancient world, with academic contributions that include numerous publications, international conference presentations, major editorial roles, and extensive archaeological field experience across the Mediterranean. She joins Trent University from Memorial University, where she served in senior research leadership roles, including acting vice-president, research, and acting associate vice-president, research, helping to advance strategic research priorities and strengthen the institution’s international profile.
In addition to her academic and administrative leadership, Dr. Allen has contributed to national research and innovation initiatives through roles with organizations spanning the arts, sciences, digital research infrastructure, ocean innovation, and health research ethics. As Trent University’s next vice-president, Research & Innovation, Dr. Allen will help champion the University’s research community and support Trent’s growing reputation as a research-intensive institution focused on healthy and sustainable environments and communities.
