On Wednesday, August 12th, 2026, parts of Canada including Oshawa and Peterborough will experience a partial solar eclipse. The process is expected to occur between 12:30PM and 2:30PM, with maximum coverage occurring at approximately 1:40PM.
In our regions, we will not experience the darkness and drop in temperature that occurred during the Spring 2024 total solar eclipse. However, the following guidance and reminders should still be considered:
- Avoid looking directly at the sun. Only use certified eclipse glasses.
- Regular sunglasses do not provide sufficient protection.
- Avoid using binoculars, cameras, etc. to view the sun.
Additionally, it is recommended to plan ahead for temporarily reduced daylight. Be aware of your surroundings, especially if travelling outdoors in a vehicle.
