The nature of lab work and the design of the workstations have many ergonomics risk factors which can contribute to development of a musculoskeletal injury.
Health and Safety have developed a Laboratory Ergonomics Guide with helpful information and risk identification related to common tasks including:
- Working at a lab bench
- Working in fume hoods or biosafety cabinets
- Pipetting or other micro-manipulation tasks
- Using microscopes
- Recommendations for laboratory chairs
Utilize the Trent University Lab Workstation Checklist to review your area or tasks and refer to potential controls included.
