Canadian University Student (Letter of Permission)

Trent University welcomes visiting students wishing to study on a Letter of Permission. To do so, please obtain a Letter of Permission from your home institution and then apply to Trent as a Letter of Permission student on the Application Portal. Note: you must select the "Create Account" option.

To view the courses offered at Trent University, please visit our Academic Timetable.

Once you have completed your application, the Trent Admissions Office will admit you and send you an email with detailed next steps (including how to submit your official Letter of Permission from your home university). Trent's Records & Registration department will register you in the course(s) once you have been admitted and the official Letter of Permission document has been received.

Once you have complete the course(s) you can request that Trent send an official transcript to your home university. This can be ordered through your myTrent portal. For questions regarding your Trent transcript, please email registrar@trentu.ca

 

Ontario High School Student (Grade 12 Scholars Program)

If you are a high achieving student in high school, you may be eligible to enroll in a course at Trent University, starting in January of your Grade 12 year. Upon successful completion, you will have a Trent University credit, which may be applied towards your Trent degree. The credit you achieve may also be transferable to other universities.

No matter where you decide to pursue your post-secondary studies, Trent can help you explore your options now and get a head start.

Available Courses

There are many courses options available to you. Below are some sample first-year courses:

BIOL 1020H: Foundations of Biodiversity (Sc) An examination of the biological principles underlying questions concerning biodiversity and evolution. Begins with a discussion of biodiversity and the implications of its loss. This is followed by consideration of the evolution of life on earth, exploring the underlying processes of natural selection and ecological interactions. Prerequisite: 4U Biology or its equivalent.

COIS-MDST 1010H: The Digital World (Sc) Digital systems have redefined how we work, communicate, and play—just think about the World Wide Web, mobile camera phones, video games, and e-business. Core topics examine the underlying technologies of both computing and inform

CRIM 1615H: Introduction to Criminology In this course students are introduced to Criminology as a field of study. Key topics include fear and moral panics, deterrence, ‘the science of morality,’ the roles of strain, social reactions, and power / risk in constructing crime, and modern approaches to addressing crime, such as restorative justice.

ENGL 1005H: Love and Hate The subject of a million popular songs and poems, all great films, and all of Shakespeare’s tragedies, love and hate still defeat us. This course looks at how love and hate are represented in poetry, popular song, drama, and fiction and asks, if “love alters not,” why is it that “love will tear us apart”?

GEOG 1045H: Introduction to the Circumpolar World Introduces students to the landscape, peoples, and issues of the circumpolar region. Beginning with an examination of the geography, biological, and physical systems of the Subarctic and Arctic, the course then turns to the Indigenous and contemporary peoples of the region.

Program Fees

Eligible students are not required to pay course fees.  Students are responsible to purchase course textbooks.
