David McNab

Course Instructor
davidmcnab@trentu.ca

I began policing in 1987 and I worked as a constable throughout my career in Haileybury, Wasaga Beach, Bancroft, and Peterborough detachments. I was a detective in the Central Region Crime Unit for two years and a member of the Central Region Crisis Negotiation Team for ten years. I occasionally filled in as team leader,  facilitating the training of and deployment of crisis negotiators during that time. This role provided specialized training in negotiating, de-escalation, and crisis resolution. I retired after thirty years of policing, eager to start a new chapter. I have been teaching in the Forensics program at Trent University since 2020. It has been exciting and rewarding to share what I have learned about applying the law and about communication, particularly with persons in crisis.

Jean-Paul (JP) Palmentier

Course Instructor
jeanpaulpalmentier@trentu.ca

Jean-Paul (JP) Palmentier earned his diploma in Chemical Engineering Technology from Centennial College, an Honours B.Sc. degree in Science from the University of Waterloo and was awarded his M.Sc. in Chemistry (Analytical and Atmospheric Chemistry) from York University.
JP worked for 18 ½ years working as a forensic scientist in the Toxicology section at Centre of Forensic Sciences (CFS). His responsibilities included analyzing bodily fluids and tissues for the presence of alcohol, drugs and poisons, writing reports and letters of opinion, providing education to the various CFS client groups and testifying in court for coroner’s death investigation inquests and criminal cases.
JP works part-time at Trent U teaching the undergraduate Forensic Toxicology course (FRSC-3800) since to 2021 and the Advanced Forensic Toxicology course (FRSC-5007) since 2023.
