Forensic Science Student Awards

Walker Wood Foundation Awards in Computer Science, Forensic Science, Kinesiology and Psychology

The Trent Computer Science, Forensic Science, Kinesiology and Psychology departments are excited to announce the offering of the Walker Wood Foundation awards. The value of the award is $2,500.   

Application for the Walker Wood Foundation Awards in Computer Science, Forensic Science, Kinesiology and Psychology for 2025 is closed and the selected student has been awarded.

Eligibility Requirements:  

  • A student majoring in Computer Science, Forensic Science, Kinesiology or Psychology (1 award available per Department) 

  • Must have completed their 3rd year and be returning to Trent in the fall of 2025

  • Must be a Canadian citizen 

  • Must demonstrate financial need as per University guidelines (i.e., students must be in receipt of OSAP, Canada part-time student loans, First Nations band funding, or the government financial aid program of their home province) 

  • Must demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities, including but not limited to volunteerism, community participation, and leadership activities  

Application 

  • Students must submit:  

    • An application form (via weblink above) 

    • A one-page outline of their extracurricular roles and activities during their degree program time   
       

Selection Process 

The student recipients will be accessed and chosen by the faculty’s awards committee and the Financial Aid office, in accordance with relevant University policies. 

 

Forensic Science Student of Excellence Prize

The Forensic Science Department and the Forensic Science Society would like to recognize a student completing their final year of the program who has displayed excellence during their years in the Forensic Science Program.


The award will include a monetary prize, and will appear on your transcript upon graduation from the program.

Do I qualify?

  • Am I a graduating student in the Bachelor of Science Forensic Science, Forensic Biology, or Forensic Chemistry Program?
  • Do I have a cumulative average of at least 77%?
  • Have I demonstrated involvement directly related to the Forensic Science Department?
  • Could I use some extra money?

To apply please submit an unofficial transcript and answer the following questions in no more than 2 pages (12pt font).

1. Why did I choose to study Forensic Science?

2. Why did I choose the Forensic Science Program at Trent?

3. What is my intended career path?

4. In the past 4 years, how have I demonstrated involvement directly relating to the Forensic Science Program?

2025 Award Winners

Walker Wood Foundation Award

The student selected for the Walker Wood Foundation Award was Josh De Sousa.  The awards committee noted Josh's active involvement in the Forensic Science Society, commitment to supporting fellow students in his College, and community outreach activities.

Forensic Science Student of Excellence Prize

The Forensic Science Student of Excellence Prize was awarded to MacKenzie Phillips-Gray.  The selection committee was impressed by MacKenzie's involvement in the Forensic Science Society and commitment to the program over her entire student career, as well as her future plans to explore a career in pathology.
