Tenure-Track Position in Environmental Studies
Trent University invites applications for a tenure track appointment in the Trent School of the Environment (TSE) at the rank of Assistant Professor commencing July 1st, 2024. This position is located at Trent’s Peterborough Campus and is subject to final budgetary approval. The current salary grid can be found in the collective agreement with the Trent University Faculty Association.
A PhD degree in environmental studies or a related field is required. The ideal candidate will have interdisciplinary expertise in environmental studies & natural resource management, with research and teaching strengths that complement focal areas and programming within the TSE (see https://www.trentu.ca/environment/). Skills and experience working with external partners and professional audiences would be an asset as we seek to increase our work-integrated learning opportunities for students (e.g., placements, co-op). The successful candidate will normally teach four courses per year, including courses that are core to our Environmental and Resource Studies and Climate Change Science and Policy degree programs (e.g., Environmental Science & Sustainability (1st year), Environmental Science & Politics (2nd year), Qualitative Research Methods (2nd year) or Climate and Energy Economics (3rd year). We expect the candidate to pursue an innovative, externally funded, and policy-relevant research agenda; contribute to School and university governance; and support Trent’s commitment to teaching excellence.

We seek candidates who can collaborate across the university and with external partners in both their research and teaching activities. The new Agroecology Lab in TSE is seeking undergraduate students keen on gaining experience working on field and lab research projects focused on sustainable agriculture and nature-based solutions for mitigating climate change. Research in our lab is well suited for students with knowledge on and, more importantly, motivation to learn about agriculture and ecosystem science, plant and soil science, biogeochemistry, and/or analytical and environmental chemistry. The Hillslope Ecohydrology Research Lab in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada are seeking a highly motivated MSc student to be part of the forest hydrology research team at Turkey Lakes Watershed. The MSc will be based at Trent University with fieldwork and data collection at Turkey Lakes Watershed, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The overarching goal of this research project is to develop a process understanding of the mechanisms that drive patterns of tree water use and its connectivity with stream water sources. Our ongoing project is funded by NSERC and the Canadian Forest Service, Great Lakes Forest Research Centre. Postdoctoral Researcher in Aquatic Flux Measurements
The Ecosystems and Global Change Group at Trent University jointly led by Prof Andrew Tanentzap (Canada Research Chair in Climate Change and Northern Ecosystems) and Dr Erik Emilson (Research Scientist, Canadian Forest Service sector of Natural Resources Canada), is recruiting a two-year postdoctoral researcher to work on investigating the leakiness of natural climate solutions.
