Ecohydrology Student Research Assistant
Monthly wage: $2500 + 4% vacation pay
Start/end dates: May 8 – August 28, 2023 (16 weeks, 35 hr/week)
Location: Based in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
Other: Employer will reimburse up to $500 towards the cost of an economy return flight between Toronto and Sault Ste. Marie. Field trips requiring overnight stays will include per diem expenses at current Trent University rates.
Job Purpose
The Ecohydrology Student Research Assistant will contribute to research projects in ecohydrology led by Dr. Jason Leach (Trent University and Natural Resources Canada) and Dr. Magali Nehemy (Trent University). The position involves data acquisition and collection, fieldwork, literature searches, data organization and data analysis. The position will be based out of the Great Lakes Forestry Center in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The research assistant will be able to collaborate and interact with a diverse range of researchers involved in the project. Scheduling of hours is somewhat flexible to meet the needs of the successful incumbent and the position.
Key Activities
1. Field data collection (e.g., streamflow gauging, water sampling, soil and vegetation sampling, meteorological stations).
2. Field sensor installations and maintenance (e.g., sap flow sensors, band dendrometers, and loggers).
3. Ecohydrological data analysis.
Experience Required
1. Knowledge of hydrological theory.
2. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
3. Must be reliable.
4. Must be able to conduct fieldwork within the scope of the job.
5. Comfortable working outdoors in inclement weather.

Postdoctoral Researcher in Aquatic Flux Measurements
The Ecosystems and Global Change Group at Trent University jointly led by Prof Andrew Tanentzap (Canada Research Chair in Climate Change and Northern Ecosystems) and Dr Erik Emilson (Research Scientist, Canadian Forest Service sector of Natural Resources Canada), is recruiting a two-year postdoctoral researcher to work on investigating the leakiness of natural climate solutions.
