Memoir "21 Cups" tells the story of Trent student’s journey to recovery

Jenna Dakins' story is one of resilience, determination, and perseverance. After suffering a stroke in her early 20s, the Trent University student faced numerous physical and emotional challenges. Throughout it all, she remained focused on her academic journey, completing her undergraduate degree, starting her Master’s, and now, becoming a published author with her memoir 21 Cups.

Jenna's journey to recovery was not an easy one. She spent months in rehabilitation, relearning basic skills such as walking and talking. The experience was overwhelming, and at times, she struggled to stay motivated. However, Jenna refused to give up on her dreams and remained steadfast in her pursuit of higher education.

"I knew that I wanted to finish my degree and continue on with my life, and I wasn't going to let anything stand in my way," said Jenna. "I had to work harder than most students to keep up with my coursework. But I never let my stroke define me. I was determined to achieve my goals."

Her perseverance paid off when she graduated with her undergraduate degree from Trent University in 2022. Now Jenna is pursuing her Master’s in in Psychology at Trent, specializing in cognitive psychology.

21 Cups – a story of next steps

Through the publication of her memoir, she hopes to inspire people.

"I wanted to share my story with others who might be going through something similar," she said. "I hope that my book can inspire others to keep pushing through their challenges and never give up on their dreams."

The memoir, 21 Cups, has received critical acclaim for its honest portrayal of her journey. The tear-jerking memoir leaves many readers in awe of her resilience and determination. In the words of one reviewer:  "Every flip of the page leaves you in awe of the tragical true events of one woman's plight. Yet, it still manages to leave behind an impression of inspiration when you put it down."

For Jenna, the publication of her book is a major milestone in her recovery journey. "I'm so proud to have written this book," she said. "It's been an incredible journey, and I'm excited to see where it takes me next."
