What are Micro-Credentials? 

Micro-credentials help learners develop specific skills and competencies in a targeted area of study. 

How They Work 

1. Register for a micro-credential course.
2. Complete the required learning activities and assessments.
3. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills gained.
4. Earn a digital badge upon successful completion. 

Your earned micro-credential will be added to a secure digital credential platform where it can be shared and verified by employers, educational institutions, and other third parties.

Program Details 

Delivery and Learning Experience 

Courses are designed to be flexible and accessible. Depending on the program, learning may be: 

• Online and self-paced (asynchronous)
• Facilitated online
• Hybrid
• In-person

Duration 

Micro-credentials are designed to be completed quickly compared to traditional programs. The length of each course varies and is listed within the individual course description. 

Training Providers 

Training may be delivered by Trent University faculty, industry experts, professional trainers, or community partners, depending on the micro-credential.

Costs and Funding 

Tuition and Fees 

Program costs vary by micro-credential. Current pricing is available on each course page. 

Funding Opportunities 

Some micro-credentials may qualify for external funding or financial assistance opportunities. Available funding options will be listed on individual course pages when applicable. 

OSAP Eligibility 

Select micro-credentials may be eligible for OSAP funding. Eligibility requirements vary by program and will be identified on the applicable course pages. 

Tax Receipts (T2202) 

Some micro-credentials may qualify for a T2202 Tuition and Enrolment Certificate. Eligibility is determined according to Canada Revenue Agency requirements and may vary by program.

Registering for a Micro-Credential 

How to Register 

1. Browse available micro-credentials.
2. Select your desired course.
3. Complete the online registration process.
4. Receive a confirmation email with next steps. 

Accessing Your Course 

After registration, you will receive a confirmation email with information about your course and next steps. 

If you are not currently a Trent University student, you will be assigned a Trent University email account and student number. 

Some courses use Blackboard, Trent University’s online learning platform, while others are delivered through external training providers. If there are any issues accessing your Blackboard account, please reach out to Trent University's IT department. 

Receiving Your Micro-Credential 

Once you have successfully completed your course requirements, your micro-credential will be awarded through MyCreds™, Canada's secure digital credential platform. 

Your digital badge: 

• Verifies the skills and competencies you have earned
• Includes information about the issuing organization and completion requirements
• Contains a verification link confirming its authenticity
• Can be shared on LinkedIn, resumes, portfolios, and professional profiles 

You will receive email instructions on how to access, manage, and share your credential.
