Can I change my major to any degree at Trent?

There are many degrees at Trent that students can change their major to on myTrent. Watch the video on How to use the Change of Major Form here. There are some programs at Trent that are direct-entry programs. The Change of Major form cannot be used for direct-entry programs. To transfer into these programs, students will need to submit an application. Visit the Transfer into Direct Entry Competitive Programs page for more information.

I'm not going to be able to finish my assignments for my courses due to personal issues, what can I do?

If a student has difficulties completing course work for the term, the first thing they would want to do is reach out to the professor. Students are encouraged to try to talk to their professor about options available to them. We recognize that this can be a stressful situation but try not to panic. The most important thing is to make sure you communicate with your professor about your ability to complete the course work. If this needs to escalate further, students can refer to the Academic Calendar - Difficulties with Completion of Coursework or Exams.

I missed the drop deadline; can I still drop a course?

Typically, if a student misses the drop deadline they cannot drop a course. The student will stay enrolled in the course and receive a final grade. It may be a helpful reminder that students can repeat a course in following years, which is an opportunity to improve the grade in the course. The highest grade will appear on a students transcript.

The Petition for Late Withdrawal is for when a student missed the drop deadline but are unable to complete the course work due to extenuating circumstance that prevented them from meeting the drop deadline and completing coursework. Speaking to an Academic Advisor when considering dropping a course is recommended. For information on how to content Academic Advising, visit the Connect With Us tab.

What is the difference between Academic Suspension and Academic Probation?

Academic Suspension occurs when a student's cumulative grade average is less than 50%. Academic Probation occurs when a student's cumulative grade average is between 50 - 59.9% or if they are returning from Academic Suspension.

It is to be noted that for a first time Academic Suspension, the student is suspended from the University for one calendar year and cannot take courses during that time. For example, if the Academic Suspension was received in May 2026, the student could not register in courses until May 2027. This does not apply to Academic Probation. If a student is on Academic Probation, they can still register in courses.

Visit our Academic Status page for more information.

How do I know if I have Transfer Credits?

It should be noted that any student who earned credits at another university or college prior to starting at Trent can be considered a transfer student. To know if student has transfer credits, the student can log into their myTrent portal and look for the Transfer Credits icon in the Academics Tab. If a student has transfer credits, they will be listed there and what the credits equate to at Trent.

For more information about transfer credits or being a transfer students, visit the New Transfer Student tab.

How do I get my Transfer Credits assessed?

Students will receive and email to their Trent email account once their transfer credits have been assessed. Students can also review their transfer credits in the myTrent portal through the Transfer Credits icon.

Contact transfercredits@trentu.ca if you have questions about your transfer credit assessment.
