Start of Term: Same-day Booking

Tuesday, September 8 to Friday, September 25, 2026

During the first two weeks of the Fall term (September 8 to September 25, 2026), the Academic Advisors in all Colleges will be booking Same-Day Advising appointments. These appointments can only be booked on the same day they occur; these appointments cannot be booked in advance.

Note that as of Monday, August 31, 2026, no appointments will be available for advance in the Student Experience Portal; same-day academic advising appointments will be available from August 31 to Sept 4. The University is closed on Monday, September 7, 2026 for Labour Day; College offices and Academic Advising appointments reopen on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Please call the Academic Advising line (705-748-1488) or visit your College Office to schedule a time to speak with an Academic Advisor. Booking for same-day appointments opens at 8:50am EST each morning. Please note that we receive a large volume of calls at the start of term, so you may need to wait on hold or leave a voicemail when you call. We appreciate your patience.

Are you a new student who needs support with course registration?

See our online guides for the course registration process, which are broken into four steps.  In particular you may find the First Year Course Suggestions by Major page helpful in determining what required courses you should take for your program in first year.

If you follow these steps to make your plan, you should be all set for course selection. If you would like some help navigating some of the tools on myTrent, we have trained, upper-year student staff in the College Offices who are available to support by calling 705-748-1488 Monday-Friday between 9:00am and 4:00pm EST.

Please note that the deadline to add or change courses for the fall term is Thursday, September 24, 2026.

Are you a graduating student looking for a degree check before the Add/Change Deadline?

We recommend that you start with the Do It Yourself Degree Check tool under the Planning Your Degree section of our website. After completing the DIY Degree Check, you may find that you’re on track and ready to apply to graduate.

Frequently Asked Questions

I am having difficulty booking an appointment, what else can I do?

During certain times of the year, demand for Academic Advising appointments is very high. We encourage you to use the resources available on this site that guide students through the course selection, scheduling, and registration process; we include how-to guides, short videos, and FAQs. Take time to review the Academic Calendar and the Academic timetable. Trained student staff can also help direct you to valuable resources and address common questions; they answer the phone lines at 705-748-1488.

There are a couple of ways to book an appointment with an Academic Advisor, so we encourage you to check the online system at 12:00pm EST (noon) when next-week and next-day appointments are released or to call at 8:50am EST to book a same-day appointment.

Staff in the College Offices are available Monday to Friday, between the hours of 9:00am and 4:00pm EST to provide assistance with booking the next available appointment.

Academic Advising is also available at the Trent Durham-GTA campus in Oshawa for students attending classes at that campus, and  for international students through the Trent International office.

Advising for International Students

How many appointments can I have in one week?

Students may book a maximum of one appointment per week. Exceptions may be made based on the Academic Advisor’s discretion and appointment availability.

How do I cancel an appointment?

If a student cannot make an appointment, it is important to cancel it in order to free that time for someone else. Students should use the online booking system (Student Experience Portal) to cancel an appointment at least 2 hours before it is scheduled to begin, email academicadvising@trentu.ca, or call 705-748-1011 ext. 7333 during office hours.

No Show Policy

We understand that things come up and might get in the way of attending a previously booked appointment with an Academic Advisor. If you do not show up for two appointments with Academic Advising, you will no longer be permitted to book your own appointment on the online booking system. If you have reached this booking limit, please call the advising phone line 705-748-1488 for assistance with booking.

We ask that you take the time to contact us to let us know if you can no longer attend, so that the Academic Advisor can offer the opportunity to another student in need of an appointment.
