Academic Integrity Module

What is the Academic Integrity Module?

Academic Skills instructors administer an online module on Academic Integrity at Trent, which you may find on your learning system (Blackboard) if your professor requires you to complete it for a course. The online module is comprised of three sections: Policy and Practice, Avoiding Plagiarism, and Avoiding Cheating. Each section is comprised of instructional materials followed by a quiz that assesses your understanding of academic integrity. In order to successfully complete the module, you must earn 100% on each of the three quizzes. Module content was updated this year to reflect changes to Trent's Undergraduate Academic Integrity Policy and Graduate Academic Integrity Policy that address the unauthorized use of artificial intelligence generators.

If you are required to complete this module for more than one course during the same academic year, you only need to complete it once. You must complete the module again if it is required by a course in a different academic year. Please review your course syllabus to learn if you are required to complete the Academic Integrity Module this term.

It is the responsibility of all Trent students to understand the university's academic integrity policy and procedures.

Academic Integrity Module FAQs for Students

Why do I see the Academic Integrity module on my Blackboard dashboard?

If you see the Academic Integrity module as a course on your Blackboard dashboard, this means that one of your course instructors is requiring that their students complete the module. You should check each of your course syllabi to determine which course requires it, and how the professor prefers to see proof that you have successfully completed the module. Students enrolled in one or more courses that require the Academic Integrity Module in the current academic year need only successfully complete this module once. Deadlines for completion are set by course instructors.

How do I know if I am required to take the Academic Integrity at Trent module?

There will usually be a note in the course syllabus, an email, or announcement to the class indicating that you are required to complete the module. Please check carefully for this notification; also note when your instructor would like the module completed, and how they would like to see proof of completion.

How many times do I have to complete this module?

If you completed the Academic Integrity Module before August 15, 2025, you will need to complete the module again for any 2025-26 courses that require it. Keep in mind that you only need to successfully complete these modules once per year, even if more than one of your courses require it.

If I am not required to take the Academic Integrity at Trent module, can I take it for general information purposes?

Yes! Even if you are not required by any of your instructors to complete the AIM, we strongly encourage you to complete it. Every Trent student is responsible for knowing and understanding Trent’s Academic Integrity Policy. In the module you learn about plagiarism, cheating, and academic dishonesty. This information will help you to act with integrity in your academic life and to avoid the consequences of breaching the policy. To request to be added to the module, email aimodule@trentu.ca.

I don’t see the Academic Integrity at Trent module listed on my Blackboard dashboard. What should I do?

There are a few reasons that you may not see the module listed on your Blackboard dashboard. The most likely reason is that the module is hidden from view. Be sure that you have filtered (or made visible) the list of Blackboard courses  that you are taking in the 2025AY term. You can do this by applying filters in your Blackboard dashboard, selecting "2025AY" in Terms and "Courses I am Taking" in Filters (as shown in the graphic below). If this does not fix the issue, please email aimodule@trentu.ca for further assistance.

Screenshot of search bar and filters in Blackboard learning management system. Graphic shows highlighted text "2024AY" in the Terms box and "Courses I am Taking" in Filters box. It also shows the Undergraduate Academic Integrity Module course title highlighted.

I have completed the Academic Integrity at Trent module, how do I show my quiz results to my course instructor?

First, check your course syllabus (or announcements) to see how your instructor prefers to check your results. Some instructors ask you to attach a screenshot or printout of your quiz results to an assignment. Other instructors prefer to use the automatic gradebook to download your scores. In the latter case, you will not be required to provide any physical proof of completion.

Taking a screenshot/printing your quiz results

To ensure your name is attached to your grade record in hardcopy or screenshot, you need to navigate to the Blackboard dashboard (not the grades section of the Academic Integrity Module) and select "Grades." Then scroll to the grades associated with the Academic Integrity Module to reveal your quiz grades. For best results, use the snipping tool to take a screenshot of the Grades and be sure to include the Blackboard menu with your name visible. See detailed instructions in this video.

Academic Integrity Module FAQs for Faculty

I would like my students to complete the Academic Integrity at Trent Module (AITM), how do I request they be enrolled?

Undergraduate Instructors: Register your 2025-2026 undergraduate course(s) for the the Academic Integrity Module.

Graduate Instructors: Register your 2025-2026 graduate course(s) for the Graduate Academic Integrity Module.

You can send questions about the AI module to aimodule@trentu.ca. We will process your request as soon as possible and let you know when your students will be able to see the module in their Blackboard dashboard. When your students have successfully completed the module, you may use the self-service site to download student grades, or alternatively ask your students to print a hardcopy or take a screenshot of their quiz results.

Is there a way to see what the Academic Integrity at Trent Module covers?

Yes! We can add you as a student user to the AITM. Please send your request to aimodule@trentu.ca.

A student tells me that they are not enrolled in the Academic Integrity at Trent Module. What should I tell them?

It is very unlikely that the student is not enrolled in the AITM; however, if they recently registered at Trent, there may be an enrollment delay for their Blackboard courses. If this the case, please ask the student to check their Blackboard dashboard for the AITM in a day or two. The more likely issue is that the student has not filtered their courses to include 2025AY on their Blackboard dashboard.  You can refer them to the “FAQs for Students” section of our AITM page for instructions on how to reveal the 2025AY courses.

How can I check that my students have completed the Academic Integrity at Trent Module?

You may choose one of several options to check your students’ AITM grades.

  1. You may use the self-service site to request an Excel spreadsheet containing your students’ grades. This spreadsheet will be emailed to the person registered as the primary instructor in the Blackboard system.
  2. You can ask your students to print out a hardcopy of their quiz results once they have completed the AITM quizzes and achieved 5/5 on each of the three quizzes. Students can attach this hardcopy to a paper copy of an assignment, hand in to a seminar leader, etc.
  3. Alternatively, you can ask your students to take a screenshot of their quiz results and paste it into a digitally submitted assignment. There are detailed instructions on how to print a screenshot of your grades in the Academic Integrity Module "Proof of Completion" section and in the FAQs for students.

Where do I find the self-serve site for the gradebook download?

In the MyTrent portal, filed under Support/Academic Support, you can find a link titled Academic Integrity Grades Module.

Can my TA or my instructional partner receive the gradebook download records?

The recipient of the gradebook download is assigned to the Enroll Instructor for the course Blackboard site; this information cannot be updated. Your TA or instructional partner can request the gradebook download, but it will be automatically emailed to you, which you can then forward, if necessary.

Why do the records from the gradebook download seem to be incomplete/inaccurate?

Note the timestamp of last update posted on the first page of the self-serve site; it is possible that the gradebook requires updating. Through the academic year, the gradebook is updated on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You can make a request for a gradebook update at aimodule@trentu.ca (or the IT service hub).
