Do all web courses have proctored exams?
No. Just like in-person courses, some will have final exams, some will not. Some of the final exams will be proctored, some may be "take home". Learn more about different exam types, and how to prepare for them.
How can I check if my course has a proctored exam?
The exam information can be found in the course syllabus. If you don't have access to the syllabus yet, you can contact the department the course is running under.
Sometimes the Academic Timetable will outline whether or not there is an in-person final exam for a web course (see example)
Where will I have to write the proctored exam for my web course?
Instructors decide whether or not there will be a proctored exam for their class, and if there will be, they decide what options will be available to students:
- Option A: in-person exams only (offered at both campuses)
- Option B: in-person or online proctored exams (the student can choose between either campus, or, online)
Students can review the Academic Timetable, the course syllabus, or contact the course department to clarify what type of exam will be offered and what the options will be.
Depending on the options confirmed by the instructor (and found in the syllabus), location options may include:
- Peterborough campus
- Durham GTA campus
- Centre for Academic
- Durham Exam Centre
- Online with ProctorU (approximate cost is $17.60 for the first hour and $8.80 for each additional hour. Prices are in USD and subject to change. This cost will be paid by the student.)
Students will receive instructions for how to declare their final exam location.
Campus Home Location
If a student does not declare their preferred exam location by the deadline, they will be assigned to write in-person at their "Campus Home Location." Information about viewing and updating your Campus Home Location can be found here.
When is the exam for my course?
The exam schedule is published in the middle of each term. You will have to declare the exam location before you know the exact schedule.

How do I declare the location for my proctored web course exam?
Check the announcements in your Blackboard course for instructions for how to declare the location for your proctored web exam. There will be a form in Blackboard.

How does online exam proctoring work?
- Our online proctoring service is Meazure Learning’s ProctorU. You can learn more about the online proctoring process here: https://meazurelearning.wistia.com/medias/3yeyj6debu. This video will explain what information sharing with the platform and proctor will be required of you.
- Selecting this option will come at an approximate cost of $17.60 for the first hour and $8.80 for each additional hour. Prices are in USD and subject to change. This cost will be paid by the student.
- Students who elect to write online will receive a separate email with instructions on how to book and pay for the service. You won’t be able to pay for and book your online exam timeslot right away. Thank you for your patience.
