Blackboard Learning Management System
Blackboard is like a Google Classroom or a digital classroom; it’s the place where your online courses are housed and facilitated. It’s accessed through the ‘Academics’ tab on the myTrent student portal. Instructors use Blackboard to display course materials, post assignments, upload assessments and communicate with you throughout the course.
When you log into your courses, it’s good practice to walk through the course to learn how to navigate the various areas. The first page is the ‘Student Dashboard’, where you’ll see the ‘My Courses’ box on the right. You can customize the dashboard by using the ‘Add Module’ and ‘Personalize Page’ buttons. Each instructor customizes their course site within Blackboard, so not all of your classes courses will use the same tools within the system.
Visit the IT page for Blackboard to access user guides and tutorial videos.
Online Exam Proctoring
Trent University has contracted ProctorU to provide remote proctoring services for specified courses.
How does online proctoring work?
As part of the onboarding process, Trent IT completes a cybersecurity review of 3rd party applications that are in use at the institution. ProctorU has completed this process, and we have determined that their security practices are in line with our standards.
Our proctoring service is Meazure Learning’s ProctorU. You can learn more about the online proctoring process here: https://meazurelearning.wistia.com/medias/3yeyj6debu. This video explains what information sharing with the platform and proctor will be required of you.
Students who elect to write online will receive an email with instructions on how to book and pay for the service. You won’t be able to pay for and book your online exam timeslot right away. Thank you for your patience.
The exact date of the exam will be available when the exam schedule is published in myTrent.
For in-person exams, the room location of your exam will be outlined in the Exam Schedule found in myTrent once the schedule is published.
Students registered with SAS who will write in the Centre for Academic Testing (CAT) or Durham Exam Centre (DEC) need to both declare their exam location preference to Trent Online and schedule their exam using the SAS portal in myTrent.
Exam Fees
Students registered in online courses may have the option to write an online proctored final exam at an additional fee. Please consult your course syllabus or course instructor for more information.
The approximate cost is $17.60 for the first hour and $8.80 for each additional hour. Prices are in USD and subject to change. This cost will be paid by the student. Conversion to Canadian dollars will be determined at the time of purchase with exchange rates subject to fluctuation. Students who choose to use the online proctored exam service will be responsible for registering with the proctoring service and paying all applicable fees (including rescheduling fees) in advance of writing the exam.
