Once you have submitted your application to Trent, there are a few additional tasks you must complete as you move through the admissions process.

Step 1: Know your Identification Number

You will receive an email from Trent University confirming receipt of your application, which will include your Trent Identification Number (7-digit number starting with “0”).

  • Once received, please include this number every time you correspond with us.
  • Please allow a minimum of 3-5 business days for your application to be processed.

Step 2: Activate and Monitor your Trent Applicant Portal

  • Activate your Trent Applicant Portal account through this link.
  • Review the Trent Applicant Portal. All information related to your admission will be available there.
  • Monitor your Trent Applicant Portal account on a regular basis for updates to the status of your application.

Step 3: Submit required documents

First, review the “Application Checklist” in your Trent Applicant Portal to confirm which documents you need to submit for admission consideration. You may also wish to review the document submission requirements specific to your curriculum.

You can submit required documents to Trent University in two different ways:

  1. Submit required documents through the “Upload Forms” option available on your Trent Applicant Portal. Documents received this way will be considered unofficial and may be used for conditional offers only. Official documents will be required if you receive an offer and decide to enroll at Trent University.
  2. OR; Request your school/institution email your transcript to admissions@trentu.ca or release it via an external electronic portal (i.e. Parchment).

Ensure that you review the deadlines for submission of documents and completion of your application. Once you submit your in-progress documents, we will review your application.

If your studies are still in progress, you may see an outstanding request for “Final Official Transcript”. This means that if you receive a conditional offer of admission, we will require the final, official transcript directly from your school when your studies are complete.

Deadlines for submitting all required documents to receive an admission decision for each intake period:

IntakeDeadline
Winter (January)November 1
Summer (degree)March 1
Summer (June, ESL only)April 1
Fall (September)July 1*

*Some fall term programs may have earlier deadlines. Submit documents by February 15.

If you are applying for admission based on completion of your high school diploma/program, we normally require an official high school transcript that includes your senior year mid-year grades, and/or your predicted final grades (if applicable). When online verification of results is available, we will verify your final results online.

If you are applying for admission based on post-secondary institution(s) grades, an official final high school transcript PLUS an official post-secondary transcript with your most recently completed courses/grades is required. In select cases, we may also require a WES (World Education Services) evaluation to proceed with an admission assessment.

  • At this admission stage, we will review your qualifications for transfer credits eligibility and update your Trent Applicant Portal with our initial assessment.
  • For students applying for Post-Graduate Certificate programs, an official university transcript and confirmation of a bachelor's degree completion is required.

Step 4: Monitor your Trent Applicant Portal for a decision

Our processing and decision-making times may vary but typically take between two and four weeks.

For most of our programs, admission decisions are released on a rolling basis. This means that as soon as we have received the required documentation to make an admission decision, it will be released, and you will be notified.

Step 5: Received an Admission Offer?

Once an admission decision has been made, it will be reflected on Trent Applicant Portal.

If you received an offer, your admission letters will be issued within three to five business days. They will be emailed to the email address provided on your application form as well as posted to your Trent Applicant Portal. Here, you can download your admission letter in PDF format.

We do not mail admission letters or LOAs and will never require a payment to release these letters.

A note on Provincial Attestation Letters (PAL)

Trent University receives its allocation of Provincial Attestation Letters (PALs) from the Province of Ontario in the first few months of each calendar year and will begin the process of allocating them to eligible international students as soon as possible. To be considered for a PAL, you must first accept their offer of admission and pay a $2,500 (CAD) deposit to Trent University.
