Indigenous Course Requirement FAQs

I started as an undergraduate student at Trent in September 2018 or later.  Do I have to meet this requirement?

Yes.  All undergraduate students beginning their studies at Trent in the Fall 2018 term or thereafter must meet this requirement to graduate.  

I started as an undergraduate student at Trent prior to September 2018.  Do I have to meet this requirement?

No.  Although all students are encouraged to complete one or more courses from the Approved Indigenous Course List, only undergraduate students beginning their studies at Trent in the Fall 2018 term or thereafter must meet this requirement to graduate. 

I am a student in a graduate program.  Do I have to meet this requirement? 

No.  Only undergraduate students are required to meet this regulation to graduate.

I started at Trent prior to September 2018 and I would like to take one of these courses.  Am I able to?

Yes.  All Trent students are encouraged to complete one or more courses from the Approved Indigenous Course List.  

Do I have to take a course from the Approved Indigenous Course List in my first year at Trent?

No.  You can fulfill this requirement at any point during your undergraduate studies. 

How will I know if a course I want to take will meet this requirement? 

Courses that meet this requirement are listed on the Approved Indigenous Course List and have the notation (ICR) after the title of the course (eg INDG 1001H: Foundations of Indigenous Studies (ICR) ).        

Where can I find the list of courses that meet this requirement? 

Courses that meet this requirement are listed on the Approved Indigenous Course List and have the notation (ICR) after the title of the course in the Undergraduate Academic Calendar.        

Can a course from the list satisfy more than one degree requirement? 

Yes.  A course from the list may satisfy other university degree or program requirements. 

Who can I contact if I have further questions about how to meet this requirement as I progress through my studies? 

You may wish to consult with an Academic Advisor if you need assistance creating a plan to meet your degree requirements.
